Description

1929- A. c. ENGELHARDT 1,725,389
FUSE PLUG Filed June 8, 1925 Patented Aug. 27, 1929.
ALEXIS C. ENGELHARD'I, OI IIIPEIS,TEN 'NE8SEE.
FUSE PLUG.
Application fled June 8, 1985. Serial No. 35,752.
This invention relates to improvements in detachable fuse plugs and contemplates the provision of the conventional or preferred type of attaching plug which is connected thereto in the usual manner and which in turn is adapted to be screwed within a socket in the fuse box and which detachable fuse plug includes a fuse which is arranged between and connected to the securing screws which hold the contact fingers associated with the detachable fuse plugs.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a relatively large opening rovided in the outer face of the detachable use'plug and which receives the outer edges of a glass or the like having a length of s ring wire arranged within a groove provi ed therein for holding the glass therein in order to provide a sight opening thereon in order that a person may readily and easily tell and as certain just which fuse has been blown.
Withthe above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully d scribed, illustrated in the accompanyin drawing and pointed out in the appended c aim.
In the drawing I Figure 1 is a perspective of a plug and detachable fuse plug.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the detachable fuse plug.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the detach.- able fuse plug.
Figure 4 is a botton plan view of the detachable fuse plug.
Figure 5 is a perspective of my fuse per se.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference c deter 10 indicates the usual and conventional or preferred type of plug having elongated slotted openings 11 arranged in spaced relation upon the outer face thereof for the reception of the contact blades or arms carried upon the companion half of the detachable plug.
The i-n'vention residing in the provision of a detachable fuse plug 12, which as mentioned in the foregoing closely resembles in configuration the other half of'a socket attachment and which includes a recessed portion 13 upon its inner side and communicating with a relatively large opening 14 extending transversely through the detachable fuse plugs 12. Arranged upon the inner sides of the recessed portions 13 of the detachable fuse plug 12 are the arcuate shaped base portions'15 of a pair of contact blades or fingers 16' the base portions being secured in place by means of rivets 18. A recessed portion 19 is provided u on the outer-sides of the detachable fuse p ug 12 and around the relatively large transversely disposed opening 14 and which receives therein a glass disk 20 which is held within this recessed portion by a. split ring 21 which has 4 and as clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing, is arranged in juxtaposition with the inner side of the lass disk -20 whereby the blown fuse may %e readily and easily seen. Owing to the provision of the bifurcated ends 21 of the fuse 22, it will be noted that the removal of the screws 17 is not necessary and that upon compressing this intermediate bent portion 22' that the bifurcated ends 21 may be readily and easily released to receive the screws 17. A cutout portion 23 is proyided in one side of the recessed portion 19 to receive therein the end of a screw driver or some sharp and flat instrument in order that the split ring 21 may be readily and easily removed from the depressed portion 19 when it is necessary to reniove the glass disk 20 in order to cleanse the same after a fuse has been blown and caused a layer of soot or lamp-black to be burned upon its inner side. I From the foregoing description and accompanying drawing it is clearly apparent and manifest that this invention provides a very useful and exceedingly advantageous article for use in the home and elsewhere owing to the fact that a sight opening is.
' ily and easily removed therefrom and fuse replaced when necessary.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what is claimed is:
A device of the character describedcomprising a hollow body portion, spaced contacts each including an arcuate-sliaped base portion seated within said body, rivet elements attaching said baseportions to the body, headed elements threaded, through said base portion and received by sockets in said body, a fuse comprising a single piece of material having an intermediate U- shaped portion positioned between said contacts, and the ends of said fuse being extended laterally from U-shaped portion and being bifurcated to slip over said threaded elements between the heads thereof and said contacts.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
' ALEXIS C. ENGELHARDT.
