SHIRT BUTTON Filed Jan. 14, 1929 Inventor w M 6 ra SI/610575 A ttom'ey Patented July 39, 1929.
LEROY O. STEINKE, OF
SPOKANE, J fASI-IINGI'ON.
SHIRT BUTTON.
Application filed January 14, 1929. Serial No. 332,423.
The present invention has reference to improvements in fastening means for apparel and more particularly the invention relates to an improved shirt button. The
device may be employed in the capacity of a bosom stud, collar button or cult button. The prime object of the invention is to provide a shirt button which can be quickly disposed in position on the apparel without 1 any inconvenience to the persons placing the same and which during use will not tend to become loose and displaced from its proper position.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a device of this character which will be of simple construction, thus permitting its production at low cost.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the improved button with its retaining head in collapsed position.
Figure 2 is a sine elevation of the improved button with its retaining head in extended or retaining position.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the improved button with its retaining head in retained position.
nigure d is an enlarged longitudinal soctional View through the improved button.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, the invention.
includes in construction a tube 1 having a discular head 2 secured at one end thereof. I
are provided with lugs 8. The lugs 8 are engageable in either the openings 9 or the openings 10, the openings 9 being located adjacent the open end of the tube 1, while the openings 10 are located adjacent the iead 2.
it will thus be seen that by compressing the legs of the retainer 5 by gripping the la "red portions 7 thereof the lugs 8 may be d'sengaged from the opening 10 and the retainer pulled outwardly so as to engage the lugs in the openings 9. In this position of the retainer, the hinged plates will assume the collapsed position shown in Figure 1. By compressing the legs of the retainer 5 and moving the same inwardly so that the lugs 8 will engage the openings 10, the plates will assume the extended or retained position. shown in Figure 2.
Obviously, certain changes in the specific shape, size and material, in the construction of this device may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A shirt button comprising a tube havinga head at one end and being open at its opposite end, a member slidable through the open end of the tube, and. a link arrangement at the open end of the tube, said slidable member being adapted to be adjusted within the tube to expand said link arrangement, and means for retaining the slidable member in a predetermined position.
2. A shirt button comprising a body having a head at one end, a link arrangement at the opposite end of the body, and adjustable means on said body for ret-atining the said link arrangement in either contracted or expanded position. i
In testimony whereof I my signature.
LEROY o. STEINKE.
