' CQNNECTER MEMBER FOR WATCH BRACELETs Filed Nov. 19, 1928 ATTORNEYS.
Patented July 30, 1929.
inen earner eerie BENJAMIN S. SAMUELS, OF NEW YQRK, N.
Y., ASSIGNOR TO PROVIDENCE STOCK 601% PANY, OF PRGVIDENCE, Rl-IODE ISLAND, A CORPORATION 0F .R-HS'DE ISLAND.
Application filed November 19, 1928. Serial No. 320,343.
This invention relates to a connector memher for watch bracelets; and has for its object to provide a connecter member for this purpose preferably formed of sheet stock folded into tubular shape, the tube being of a length to fit between the side bars of the bail of a wrist watch, the tube being split or formed upon along one side to hook over the bail bar and be subsequently closed thereover, an extending attaching member being provided to which the end of the bracelet may be connected.
A further object of the invention is to form the connector member from a single piece of sheet stock, a portion of whichis folded into tubular form split alongone side to be closed over and permanently connected to the bail bar and having a portion extending laterally from the side of the tube to which an end of the bracelet may be connected.
lVith these and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as Will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. l is a plan View illustrating my improved bracelet connecter member as applied to opposite ends of wrist band and attached to the opposite bails of a wrist watch.
Fig. 2 shows a blank of sheet stock from which my improved connector member may be formed, the same showing an inteqral eye member formed on one edge thereof.
F ig. 3 is a perspective View showing a portion of the blank as folded into tubular form and having one edge of the blank extending laterally and pierced to form an attaching eye.
F ig. 4 illustrates the connecter member being applied to the bail bar of a wrist watch.
5 shows the connector member in section and applied to a bail bar of a Wrist watch.
Fig. 6 shows one end of a bracelet link as connected to the eye portion of a connector member.
Fig. 7 shows the connector member folded into tubular form and having an eye member soldered along one side thereof.
It is found in practice that where a braceet may be separated at its middle-portion, of advantage in many instances, to per manently connect its opposite ends to the bails of the wrist watch; and to accomplish this in a simple and effective way I preferably form each of the connector mcmbers of sheet stock and first fold the same into tubular shape with its edges separated along one side thereof to receive and be closed over the bail bar of the watch and I have also found it of advantage to form an extending attaching member along one side of the tube, to which the bracelet end may be readily attached and it is in some instances of particular advantage to form this member integral with the stockof the body portion by bending one edge of the stock outwardly piercing the same so that the bracelet may be attached thereto; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention and showing one construction of connecter by which these advantageous results may be accomplished:
lVith reference to the drawings, 10 designates the blank from which the connector member may be folded into tubular form and 11 illustrates a laterally extending ear portion herein shown as being pierced as at 12 to form an eye to which the end of the bracelet 13 may be connected.
This blank after being formed from sheetstock is rolled or folded into the tubular shape illustrated at 1 4. in Fig. 3, the edges of the stock being preferably left slightly spaced apart as at 15, to form a split therethru, whereby the tube may be readily passed over the cross bar 16 of the wrist Watch 17, as best illustrated in Fig. 4, and then closed about the bar, as illustrated in F ig. 5, so as to pivotally and permanently attach this connecter member to the hail of a Watch.
In some instances, I may form an eye member 18 separate from the tube and solder it as at 19, see Fig. 7, to the side of the tube, but I preferably form this eye memberintegral with the tube by providing tube may opposite sides of a wrist an extension 11 on one edge of the stock notching the edges of the stock of the tube on either side of the attaching member 11 and bending this attaching extension outwardly to extend longitudinally along one side of the tube, the width of this member being preferably less than the length of the tube, whereby the end portions of the be readily closed about the bail bar, whereby one of the link members of the chain may be readily passed thru the eye in the extension and the ends of the bracelet may be thus permanently connected to watch.
By this construction of forming a con necter member of one piece the same is very inexpensive in construction, is very strong and durable and is neat in appearance and se rves as a most practical method by which the ends of a bracelet may be attached to the bails of a watch.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the tending outwardly mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claim.
I claim:
A connecter member for watch bracelets formed of a single piece of sheet stock folded to provide a tubular portion open on one side along its length and of a diameter to loosely embrace the bail bar of a wrist watch, one edge of the tube-being provided with an integral edge attaching member exto lie in a plane passing substantially thru the axis of the tube, the
width of said member being substantially less than the length of the tubular portion, the edges of the tube on either side of the attaching member being slit, and the edges of the projecting ing arranged to extend beyond the plane of said attaching member, said tubular end portions being bendable to be readily closed about the bail 'bar.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
BENJAMIN S. SAMUELS.
