CORPORATION OF BHODE IBLAN D.
CONNECTEB FOB WRIST-WATCH STRAPS.
Application filed April 8, 1926. Serial No. 100,768.
This invention relates to an 'extension attachment for a wrist Watch strap adapted to be unfolded for the purpose of extending the operating length of the strap, and the object of this invention is to provide in such a member a pair of plates or sections hinged to gether at one end to fold one upon the other, means being provided for releasably retaining the sections in folded position, and
means also being provided for retaining one end of the strap in ditierent adjusted positions along the length of one of the sections whereby the working length of the strap may be adjusted to fit the wrist of the wearer.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a detachable member preferably of the snap fastener type for adjustably connecting'one end of the strap to this extendible member.
With theseand other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my improved extension member as attached to a wrist watch strap and in folded posit-ion.
Fi re 2 shows the inner plate of the foldd hle member.
Figure 3 isa perspective view showing the inner plate of the foldable member de-- tached. 7
Figure 4 shows one end of the strap partillustrating the snap fastener stud secured thereto. 5
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through the two extendible members showing them as folded one upon the other and the strap par'ts connected thereto.
- igure 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Figure 5,; showing the frictional fingers for retaining the extendible members in folded position.
Figure 7 is a perspective view showing the extendible strap member in extended position to temporarily lengthen the strap sufiiciently to enable it to be passed over the hand onto the arm of the wearer.
It isfoundin the wearing of wrist watches of advantage in many instances, to be able to temporarily lengthen the attaching braceletor strap to such an extent as to permit it to be passedover the hand onto the arm of the a; wearer and to as quickly fold the same back 16 along the the operating length of the strap to fit wrists into operating position to secure the strap in place; and to accomplish this in a simple and effective way, I have provided a pair of plates which are hinged together at one end and which are adapted to be folded one upon the other and. be releasably retained in folded position. Also I have provided simple and effective means whereby one member of the wrist strap may be adjusted along the length of one of the plates to regulate the operating length of the stra to fit wrists of different sizes; and the fol owing is a de tailed description of the present embodi-' as at 12 and bent back to form hinge mem-v bers. This inner plate is also provided at its opposite ends with a pair of spring fingers 13 preferably undercut slightly on their inner faces as at 14', see Figure 6, and this plate is also rovided at its end with rearwardly bent 'gers-15 to serve as a 'de through which one part of the straps ides.
rovided with a series of. stud receiving ho cs 16 spaced along its Also? this pla is len h. V
cooperating extenslon plated? is provided with a pair of joint studs" 1 8:fo'rmed I integral with one end thereof, which are adapted to enter the eyes 12 in the ears 11 of its plate to hinge the two platestogether, the opposite end of this plate 17 vided with a bail 19 to which the en 20 of a this strap has its center u d bed pur presen y escrl 'lhz strap portion 23 has one end looped portion 21 plate."
After the two strap members have been secured to their different 'extendible plates and their hm' go rtions'oonnected' ther they may be 015:1 one upon the oth into the position illustrated in Figure 5, and the snap plate 17 is snapped between the resilient fingers 13 to releasably retain these plates in folded position one upon the other.
The cut out portion 22 of the plate 17 serves to receive that portion of the stud 26 which extends through its hole 16 in the inner plate 10.
By my improved construction the extendible member for the wrist watch is very strong and durable yet is very inexpensive to construct and the two plates may be read ily folded one upon the other and releasably retained in folded position. Also the working length .of the strap may be readily adjusted by snapping the stud 26 into any one of the holes 16 along the plate 10 to cause the strap to fit the arm to which. it is applied.
The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that Ireserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim: j
1. In a two-part wrist watch strap, a connecter for said parts comprising a pair of connecter plates hinged together at one end, means for detachably retaining said plates together in folded position, a series of holes in one of said plates, a glove-type resilient. snap for .fastening stud in one strap part to snap into said holes to secure the strap in different adjusted position, and means for securing the other strap part to the other of said plates.
2. In a two-part wrist watch strap, a connecter for said parts comprising a pair of plates hinged together at one end, an integral strap receiving bail on the free end of one section, one of 'said strap parts connected thereto and a strap guide on the corresponding end of the opposite section through which the strap end of the other strap part extends, and means for adj ustably securing the last said strap end to the sec tion in which it is guided comprising stud and socket snap fastening connections respectively positioned on said strap and section.
3. In a wrist watch strap, an extendible member comprising a pair of plates, one having a pair of integral laterally-extending hinge studs and the other a pair of integral bent-up pierced ears receiving said studs by which the two plates are hinged together, a pair of integral frictional fingers extending from the sides of one plate to snap over the side edges of the other plate to releasably secure them in folded position, means for securing one of the straps to one of the plates, and means for adjustably attaching one end of another strap to the other of said plates.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
