Description

July 9, 1929. B. J. FELDSTEIN 1.720.038
BATTLE Filed Aug. 6, 1928v ATTORNEY,
Patented July 9, 1929.
UNITED STATES BEN J. FELDSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BATTLE.
Application filed August 6, 1928. Serial No. 297,602.
This invent-ion relates to toys for Very small children, and has reference particularly to a novel type of rattle embodying a hollow ring upon which a hollow figure is yieldably mounted, both the ring and figure containing loose pebbles for the purpose of making a noise when the rattle is set in motion.
The invention has for its object to provide a rattle of the character hereinafter described, which is attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at a very moderate cost.
A further object of my invention is to provide a rattle having a grip portion in the form of a hollow ring and a hollow figure mounted to oscillate about one point on the periphery of the ring by imparting motion to the ring.
I accomplish these objects by means of the device described in the following specification, set forth in the appended claims and illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawings; in which,
Figure l is a front elevational view of the toy according to the invention; and
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, 10 denotes a hollow ring composed preferably of celluloid, and as illustrated in the drawing, the ring is elliptical in shape and arranged loosely therein are a few pebbles 11. One end of the ring 10 is flattened. on its outer surface to provide a table surface 12, and adjacent the extreme ends of the table surface 12 are two openings 13, the inner wall portion of the ring is also provided with spaced openings 14, but though the latter are under the openings 13, they are closer together.
Mounted on the table surface 12 1s a hollow figure 15, in the present instance the figure is that of a small chicken. The portion of the figure coming into contact with the surface 12 is flat and is formed by a straight piece of material 16.
The figure 15 is held in erect position on the flattened portion of the ring 10 by means of a normally tensioned elastic cord 17, the mid portion thereof being disposed bet-ween the openings 14 on the inner periphery of the ring while the two ends are threaded first through the two openings 14 and then through the other openings 13 and from there the ends project through other openings 18 in the shoe or straight piece of material 16 and are each provided with a knot 19. The elastic cord 17 when arranged described not only connects the ring 10 and figure 15 together, but due to its elasticity the figure 15 remains normally in upright position upon the ring. Movement of the ring 10 to and fro causes the figure 15 to sway in the same direct-ion. Small pebbles in the figure causes the usual rattling noise common to toys of this character.
Having now described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A. childs toy rattle, comprising a ring, a figure arranged on the periphery of the ring, both ring and figure having adjacent flat seat portions, and normally tensioned elastic connecting means for holding said flat seat portions of the figure on the seat portion of the ring.
2. A childs toy rattle, comprising a ring having spaced radially disposed openings, a hollow figure arranged on the ring over the openings and provided with corresponding openings, an elastic member normally tensioned and arranged with its mid portions projecting through the openings in the ring and its ends projecting through the openin s in the figure, the extreme ends of the elastic member being knotted against the inside of the hollow figure to hold the elastic under tension and the figure erect on the ring.
3. A childs toy, comprising a hollow ring having a portion of its outer periphery flattened and provided with spaced openings, the inner wall of the ring under the flattened outer portion being provided with openings, more closely spaced apart than the first mentioned openings, a hollow figure provided with a flat surface to rest upon the flattened portion of the ring and having openings corresponding with those of the ring, an elastic cord connecting the ring and ligure through the said openings and being normally under tension to hold the figure erect on the flattened portion of the ring.
4. A childs toy rattle as claimed in claim 3, in which small solids are loosely arranged in the ring and figure to make a noise when the ring is set in motion to cause the elastic cord to yield and sway the figure.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
BEN J. FELDSTEIN.
