PENCIL CLIP.
Application filed February 15, 1928. Serial No. 254,427.
This invention relates to clips for pencils and fountain pens, which are adapted to prevent them from slipping out of the vest pockets in which they are ordinarily carried; and it consistsin providing the spring member of the clip with aball hearing which permits it to slide easily on the material of the vest in the act of withdrawing the pencil from the pocket.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a side View of a pencil provided with a clip constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 isa crosssection through the ball bearing, taken on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1, and drawn to a larger scale.
The pencil 5, or fountain pen, is provided with a tubular clip or attachment 6 which is sprung over it or otherwise attached to it. This clip has a spring member 7 which projects from one side of it and extends longi- 20 tudinally of the pencil. This spring member has a cup 8 at its free end, and a ball 9 is mounted in the cup so as to rotate freely,
The cup is a little larger than a hemisphere,
.. and its edge 10 is pressed inwardly around 2 the ball in the cup so as to hold the ball in the cup, with one side of the ball projecting from the cup towards the pencil. The spring memberholds the ball pressed firmly against the outside of the pocket,and the ball i'acili-- tates the removal of the pencil from the pocket and also its replacement, and'it prc vents the material ofthe pocket from being torn or worn away, and permits the use of a stronger spring member, so that the pencil is held with great security.
