To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SYDNEY WV. RnYN-' onus, acitizen of the United States, residing at Ripon, county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spectacle-Case Clips; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to a holding clip for spectacle or eye-glass cases, the principal object of the invention being to provide a clip, which will be a ermanent part of the case, and which will unction to prevent the case from falling out of the wearers pocket and possibly breaking the expensive glasses therein.

The majorit of men who do not have to wear their g asses continually prefer to carry their glass-cases in their vest pockets, which however are usually of insuflicient depth to completely receive the same. Therefore, under present conditions, whenever the person so carrying the case bends over to any extent, or moves the body violently in any manner, such as when running or jumping, the spectacle case is very apt to be forced or jump out of the pocket, resulting, as previously stated, in the possible breaka e of the glasses, or the loss of the same through the owner failing to notice their absence.

This tendency to leave the pocket is aided by the almost universal slick or glazed covering provided on the cases, as well as b the similar properties of the lining 0 the pocket.

With my improved clip, the case is firmly held in place in the pocket, regardless of the extent it normally projects from the pocket, or of the smoothness of the exterior surface of the case.

-A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device,

and yet one which will be exceedingly effec" tive for the purposes which it is designed.

These objects I accomplish by means of suchstructure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.

Fig. 1 is a fanciful outline of the clothed bust of a man, showing a spectacle case as provided with my improved clip and carried' in a vest pocket.

Fig. 2 is an edge view, enlarged, of the clip, showing one method of attaching it to the case.

Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing another manner of attachment of the clip.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 denotes the spectacle case, of which the cover 2 is usually considered the front face, said face, as well as the entire case, being usually of metal 3 covered with imitation leather 4 or similar material and lined-with velvet 5.

My improved clip consists of a flat and relatively broad spring-metal strip 6, having connection with the case 1 or cover 2 a certain distance from one end, and depending free of said case toward the other end for a certain distance, the portion 6 being spaced slightly from the case throughout its extent. The lower or free end of this strip is preferably cupped toward the surface of the case as at 7 so as to firmly grip the goods of the pocket 8 in which the case may be placed, and yet will not tend to catch in and tear the cloth.

The clip is intended to be permanently attached to the case or cover, which may be done in either of the following ways; and preferably during the manufacture of the case.

Referring to Fig. 2, the clip 6 ma have an extension 9 bent nearly parallel t 'ereto,

and projecting through a slit in the case metal 3, then lying between the said metal and the lining 5. This extension may be soldered or otherwise rigidly fixed to the metal if desired.

Another method of attachment is shown in Fig. 3, the upper end of the clip having a short length 10 adapted to lie against the outside of the metal 3 between the same and the covering 4, and to be then soldered or riveted to the said metal.
