KEY CASE.
Application filed February 14, 1928.- Serial No. 254,182.
This invention relates to improvement in cases for keys and the like and, more particularly to such cases wherein the keys are supported in snap hooks and these hooks are swingingly and swivelly mounted on a plate at the topof the case.
More particularly the invention relates to an improvement on my prior Patent 1,623,627
patented April 5, 1927, the hook here shown being illustrated, described and claimed in my copending application for patent, Seriai Number 289,118, filed June 29, 1928.
One important object of the present invention is to provide an improved combination 4 of supporting plate and swinging member with a novel key hook swiveled to the latter. A second important object of the invention is to provide an improved combination of the above case wherein the key hooks may not only swing and swivel but may also slide laterally of the case to thus enable a selected hook to be more readily separated from its fellows. V
v A third important object of the invention is-to provide a novel and improved form of key hook itself.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of COIlStIUOtlOII and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and: 1'
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the key case embodying the invention, the flaps of the case being shown in open position; 7
Figure 2 is an inside elevation of the upper part of such a casein its modified form.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3'-3 ofthe upper part of Figure 1. s
Figure 4 is a section on the line 44 of Figure 2. I
Figure 5is an enlarged detail view showing the key hook itself in side elevation.
vided a case forming member preferably of leather or other like suitable material and having a central back portion and side'flaps 11 foldable on the inside of the back portion in overlappin relation and capable of being secured info ded position by snap button elements 12. To the upper part of this key case is secured by suitable rivets 13 a plate 14 and inthe form shown in Figure lthe plate l4 is provided at its upper edge with a series of slots, the material of the" upper edge between the slots beingbent'to form a series of eyes 15 wherethrough passes a supporting bar or rod 16 on which, in each slot, is mounted a ring 17 having a depending neck 18 which passes through a suitable opening in the eye 19 of a key hook and has its lower end enlarged as at 20 so that while the key hook may swivel free on the neck18 it cannot become detached therefrom. The eye 1 portion of this hook isarouate for the upper part of its extent and the material from which the hook is made is reverse-1y curved as at 21 to merge into a straight back portion 22. This back portion merges into a substantially semi-circular bight 23 which in turn extends into the straight bill 24 which converges toward the'back 22 at the reverse curve 21. The other end of thematerial extends in a tangent from the curved portion of the eye 19 as at and lies fiat against the inner side of the back 22 adjacent the eye, theend of the bill 24 engaging this back engaging portion of the eye andterminating in an outwardly curved end 26. With this type of hook it will be seen that the billaids in holding the end of the eye against the back.
In the form shown in Figure 2 the plate 14 is provided at each upper corner with an eye 27 and a rod 28 extends between these eyes, the rod being free-from the plate between said eye. The same type of rings 17 is applied to this rod 28 and these rings cannot only turn on the rod but can also slide there along sothat one hook may be separated laterally from the fellows by pushing the remainder of the hooks to the right or left as the case may be. In both of these types the same form of hook is used, this form being indicated in general in Figuresl and 2 and 5 by the letter H, it being deemed unnecessary to encumber Figures 1 and 2 with reference characters indicating the particular portions of the hook as in-Figureii. I In both forms of the device there is pro- There has thus been provided efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified;v I
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form here asimple and I in shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come Within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new, is: 1
1. In a key case, a supporting plate having a pair of tongues projecting from its upper edge at the ends thereof and bent to form a pair of Widely spaced eyes projecting therefrom a rod extending between said eyes a series of rings slidably and rotatably mounted on said rod between the eyes, each of said rings having a projecting shank, and key hooks each having an eye swivelled on a respective shank and having the shank end extending into the eye and enlarged.
2. In a key case, a supporting plate having a pair of Widely Spaced eyes projecting therefron'l, a rod extending between said eyes a series of rings slidably and rotatably mounted on said rod between the eyes, each of said rings having a projecting shank, and key hooks each having an eye swiveled on a re spective shank and having the shank end ex tending into the eye and enlarged, said rod being positioned sufficiently far in advance of the plate to permit said hooks to hang parallel to said plate and being free between said eyes. i v a In testnnony WhereofI affix my signature.
CHARLES LORBER.
