erm-EXTENSION DEVICE,
vThis invention relates to an extension device of the type more particularly employed in a wrist watch strap to extend the length o f the strap for passing the strap and watch over the hand of the wearer without disconnecting the ends of the strap from the watch; and has for its object to provide a compact extenslon member which may have a greater extension than that provided by the unfolding of its arts. y
p A further object of the invention is the provision of a plurality of foldable sections with one section provided with a pluralityof sliding parts such that when the sections are unfolded to extend the eectivelength .of the strap, a still further extension may be afford- Of one or more of the sections.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a simple andeffective clasp for securing the parts together which will'coo erate with the means for securing one of tlie strap parts to one of the sections. v
rlliis invention further consists of the provision of a tip on one of the strapparts which is secured to the end of one of the sections beneath which an extension of another of p said sections may be releasably snapped to lhold the section in folded position.
yWith these and other objects in view, the invention consists 0f certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described,
and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
'In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. l is a top plan view of a wrist watch strap with the extension device positioned intermediate its ends.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view ofthe body section at one'end ofthe device.
Fig. 3 is a section. v f- Fig. 4 is a perspective view ofone of the parts ,of the intermediate section.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the other part of the intermediate section.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view illustrating the sections assembled andin unfolded position with the sliding parts of the intermediate sections partially extended.
- Fig. 7' is a fragmental detail showing the perspective View of another end 'f lustrating the hinge connection of the inter mediate section thereto.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view on line 8-8 of Fig. 7 Y* A Fig. 9 is a sectional view through the intermediate section showing the relative arrangement ofthe two parts thereof.
Fig. l0 is a sectional side view showing the relative position of the parts upon their initial movement from folded to unfolded posit1on. t i
Fig. 11 is a sectional side view similar to Fig. 10 showing the parts in folded position.
It is desirable to provide in a watch strap an extensiondevice which may `be manipu- .lated to extend the etfectivejlength of the in order to provide an Increased extension of a plurality of folded sections', I have formed one of these sections with a plurality of sliding parts to permit of further extension after Vthe sections haver been .unfolded to further tions; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention showing one 'construction by which these advantageous results may be accomplished.
With reference `to the drawings, l5 designates an end or body section which is formed with side walls 16 and 17 having openings 18 therein to receive means for securing the end of one part of the strap in adjusted position therein, 19 designates the other end section and between these end sections there is hinged an intermediate section 20 which is composed of two parts 21 and 22 slidably fitted together.
The Watch strap is formed in two parts 31 and 32, each being provided with suitable means 33 to connect the ends to the strap bars.
or bails of a wrist watch, the: opposite ends of each of these strap parts are connected to the extension device. Strap part 31 is provided with a tip 34 which is suitably secured thereto and provided with a tubular portion 35 With turned-in edges 36 in Whichrtrunnions 37 are mounted and forced outwardly by means of a spring 38 which affords a means for adjustably mounting this end of the strap in the body section as the trunnions 37 may be engaged in any one of the holes 18 in the side walls of the body section.
The end of the strap part 32 is provided with a tip 39 secured thereto and provided with a tubular portion 40 through which a pivot pin 41 extends to connect it to the ears 42 on the end section 19.
` The sections are held in folded position by a portion 43 of the intermediate section being extended to a suficient length to snap beneath the tip 40, as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 11, whereby a simple and yet effective lock is provided to hold the sections in folded position.
I t will of course be apparent from the foregoing that the sections may be snapped apart, as illustrated in Fig. 10, and then unfolded, as illustrated in Fig. 6, after which the parts 21 and 22 of the intermediate section may be further extended by a relative sliding of the parts one upon the other to increase the eii'eo` tive length of the strap.
In initially snapping the partsfrom locked position the finger piece 45 extending from the body 15 may be utilized for convenience lof operation, if desired.
lThe foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but vI desire it 'to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting` to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limitedonly by the terms of the appended claims..l i
