E. F. BOSSUNG CIGARETTE EJECTOR Filed March 25. 1928 ATTOR NEY msi/WMM Patented Jan. 22, 1929.
UNITED STATES ERNST F. BOSSUNG, OF HAMILTON, OHIO.
CIGARETTE EJECTOR.
Application filed March 23, 1928.
My present invention has reference to a simple, cheaply constructed device of a neat appearance which maybe readily attached to the outer end of a cigarette or cigar holder and easily and quickly manipulated for ejecting the butt of the cigar or cigarette from the holder.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an approximately central longitudinal sectional view through a cigar or cigarette holder embodying my improvement.
Figure 2 is a plan View thereof.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view to illustrate the manner in which the improvement is operated to eject the cigar or cigarette butt therefrom.
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view on the line if-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a similar sectional view on the line 5 5 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a detail longitudinal sectional 25 view through a. slight modification.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates a cigar or cigarette holder of the usual type. bcrewed in the cigar or cigarette receiving end of the holder 1 there is a plug 2. The plug 2 is formed with a central opening 3, and with a plurality of openings 4 arranged around the central opening 3. The central opening is threaded and has screwed therein the threaded end of a headed bolt 5. The shank of this bolt is received through an opening in the flat androunded end 6 that forms the terminal wall of an outwardly flared member 7, and the flared member is formed by inturning the end of a sleeve 8 which is slidably arranged on the holder 1. Preferably the inner or free end of the sleeve 8 is flanged, as at 9, and this flange affords a finger or a hand grip.
Arranged to surround the bolt 5 and to exert a pressure against the plug 2 and ra iiange 10 formed on one end of a plug 11 that abuts the end G of the cigar or cigarette receiving portion 7 of the sleeve 8, there is a helical spring 18. The bolt passes through the lug 11 and through the flange 10 thereof, and the inner end 6 of the cigar or cigarette receiving portion 7 of the sleeve 8 is provided with a plurality of openings 14 that surround the opening through which the bolt 5 passes.
It will be noted from the foregoing description that the smoke passage through the Serial No. 264,068.
holder is in no ways impaired and that the end of the cigar or cigarette is effectively' sustained in the funnel or conical receptacle 7 therefor. By merely sliding the sleeve to the position illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings, the headed end of the bolt 5 will contact with the end of the cigar," or cigarette and ej ect the same from the receptacle 7 and from the holder.
IVhile I have illustrated a satisfactory embodiment of the invention my features of invention are capable of extended application and I do not wish to be limited to the specific structure herein shown and described.
In Figure 6 I have illustrated a slight modification. The cigar or cigarette holder 15 has arranged over its outer end a slidable sleeve 16 substantially similar to the sleeve 8,. the same having an inner flange 17 and its outer endl preferably integrally formed with an inwardly directed cigar or cigarette receiving pocket 18. The inner wall of the pocket has a round opening therethrough for the reception of an integral member 19 that is screwed in the bore of the holder 15. The member 19 has an outer flange 2O to contact with the inner wall of the pocket 18. Surrounding the tubular member and exerting a pressure between the inner wall of the pocket 18 and the outer end of the holder 15 there is a coil spring 21. The operation is similar to that previously described it being merely necessary to draw the sleeve 16 inwardly and over the holder 15 to cause the ring flange 2O to contact with and eject the cigar or cigarette from the pocket 18.
Having described the invention, I claim:
In combination with a cigar or cigarette holder, of an ejecting means therefor, comprising an apertured plug secured in the outer end of the holder, a headed element extending centrally therefrom, a sleeve slidably arranged on the holder and having an inturned cigar or cigarette receptacle therein, and against whose inner wall the head of the element contacts, said inner wall having a plurality of apertures therethrough and spring means exerting a tension between the plug and the receptacle for normally urging the sleeve outwardly with respect to the holder and such outward movement being limited by the contact of the headed element with the inner wall of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ERNST F. BossuNG.
