PATENT GFFICE.
MUSGROVE, 0F CORSICANA, TEXAS.
STICKER ROD.
Application led June 30,
This invention aims to provide a coupling 'for sucker rods or the like, embodying .interiitting sections designed to be quickly and conveniently assei'nbled or disassembled as the occasion may require, without the use of wrenches or other tools, together with means for holding the sections lined relatively when assembled.
The nature and adwrntages of the invention will be better understood when the tolllowing detail description is read in comico" tion with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing .in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this applition like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the sections.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the other section.
Figure 3 is a view partly in section showing the sections assembled.
Referring to the drawing in detail A and i3 represent the respective sections of the coupling, the upper and lower end portions of the respective sections being' lindicated at 10 and 11, and each having;l its opposed sides lattened. as at The section A includes a shank 13 Jrom the opposite sides of which project lugs arranged in pairs, one pair of lugs being indicated at 1% and spaced 'from the other pair of lugs 15. One side of the shank 13 is also provided with a resilient hook-like latch 16 Jfor a purpose to be hereinafter described.
The section B is hollow to receive the shank 13, the lower portion of which shank and lugs 15 being adapted to repose upon the end portion 11 of the section B. Thesection B is provided with spaced pairs of curvedlugs 1T, and lwhen the shank 13 is received by the section B, the lugs carried by said shank are arranged between the lugs 17 as clearly illustrated in the drawinof. The section B is 1927. Serial No. 202,661.
provided with a shoulder 18 having secured thereto a metallic wear plate 19, adapted to be engaged by the hook-like latch 16 when the sections are assembled as shown in Figure 3. The end portion 'l1 or the section B is also provided with a slot QOadapted to receive a sliding latch 21 carried by the section A to assist in holding the sections assembled. It is manifest, that by reason of the construction shown and described, the complementary sections oi the coupling can be very easily and quickly assembled or disassembled without the use ot any tools for this purpose.
Vilhile it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, we desire to have it understood, that we do not limit ourselves to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be ref sorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
A coupling of the character described comprising two complementary sections, one section including a reduced shank of rectangular contour in cross section, lugs projecting from the opposite sides of the shank and arranged in pairs, with one pair disposed above the other, the other section being hollow rcceiving the shank, spaced upper and lower pairs oil. curved lugs projecting from the longitudinal. edges oit' the second mentioned section and fitted between the lugs on said shank, said second mentioned section having a transverse opening arranged between its pairs of lugs and providing an upstanding shoulder, and a resilient hook carried by the longitudinal side of said shank and projecting through the opening and overlying the shoulder.
.ln testimony whereof we al'lix our signatures.
