ROBERT E. CLARK, or BOONVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN FRUIT-JAR FILL ERS AND JELLV-STRAINERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.l'79,68 l, dated July 11, 1876; application filed March 29, 1876.
To all whom 2t may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBER E. CLARK, of Boonville, in the county of Oneida and State ot'New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Jar Filler andv Jelly-Strainer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to household implements used in filling jars, bottles, &c., with preserved fruit or jelly, the same being strained in the process otfilling; and consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the drawing referred to herein, Figure 1 represents a plan view of myimproved jarfiller and strainer. Fig. 2 shows a vertical section of the same applied to ajar. Fig. 3
' shows a vertical section ot'jar-filler, and an extension which may be used with it, as herein set forth.
In the said drawing, A designates the rim forming the uppermost.portion of the filler; B, the funnel shaped part, and U the lowest part, the same being tubular, so as to enter the mouth of ajar. At the junction of the parts A and B is. formed the inward shoulder a, forming a seat or rest for the perforated plate E, the latter forming the strainer, and
being immovable. At the junction of the parts B and O is also formed a shoulder, c, outward where the tiller rests on the mouth or top of thejar when the said filler is placed in position. The perforated plate E, forming the strainer, is detachable, and is provided with a ring, I), hinged or coup1ed to said plate near its edge, so that said ring may be used to clamp the strainerE, and secure itin place within the filler and upon the seat a, as shown in the drawing. The extension-filleris also made somewhat funnel-shaped, the upper part (indicated by B) being made to conform to the tubular part Oabove described, so as to receive the said tube 0, as shown in Fig. 3,.
when thejar-filler and the extension are used in conjunction. The said extension is also provided with a strainer, 01, and is formed as shown in Fig. 3, to convey thejelly or article strained into a vessel with a smaller mouth or opening. When the extension is used with the jar-filler, one or both of the strainers E and d may be used.
I claim In combination with thejar-filler'formed of the parts A, B, and O,- the perforated plate E, provided with the clamping-ring b, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence oftwo witnesses.
ROBERT E. CLARK.
