Description
' March 10, 1931. ENDRES 1,796,013
CONNECTING PLATE Filed April 22. 1929 Patented Mar. 10, 1931 UNITED STATES LAWRENCE M. ENDRES, orwAnNAkEE, wIscoNsIN CONNECTING PLATE Application filed April 22, 1929. Serial No. 357,207.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in connecting plates for draft connections for agricultural implements.
One of the objects of my invention is the 5 provision of a new and improved connecting plate which is particularly constructed for use in connection with my improved draft connection, illustrated and described in my Patent #1,715,063, issued May 28, 1929,
o and consists of an improved plate adapted to be connected to the forward draw bar of the draft connection and used for connecting a number of the links and brace bars to one point.
5 Another object of my invention is the rovision of an improved connecting plate or bracket adapted to be attached to the forward draw bar of my improved draft connection whereby to equalize the strain between the links, braces, etc, which are connected to the forward draw bar and to relieve the forward draw bar of the direct strain thereon of the connecting bolt which connects the forward draw bar with the main draw bar. I
A further object of the invention is the provision of a plate or bracket of the above character which is formed of a single piece of material and shaped to be applied to the 0 draw bar in the proper manner and provided with a plurality of openings, some of which are disposed at right angles to the others for receiving the different connections.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel feature of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more full set forth, pointed out in the claim and s own in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the portion of the draft connection illustrated in my Patent No. 1,715,063 issued May 28, 1929, showing my improved plate or bracket attached thereto r Figure 2 is a front elevation of the parts shown in Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the improved bracket.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, it will be noted that I have illustrated a portion of my improved draft connection heretofore referred to which comprises the main draw bar 1 and the forward draw bar 2. These draw bars 1 and 2 are connected by means of bolt 3 upon which is mounted a spacing sleeve 4. This bolt 3 extends through the end of the bar 2 and is provided with a nut 5 for retaining the same in position. Ordinarily this nut 5 lays considerable stress upon the forward edge of the bar 2 and has a tendency to create consid- I erable wear on the front of the bar 2 and in order to eliminate this wearing of the bar 2, I provide a. plate 6 having an opening 7 for receiving the bolt 3.
The construction also includes the diagonal brace '8. and diagonal links 9 and 10, said links being diagonally aligned as shown in Figure 1. Theplate 6 is provided with a vertically disposed extension 11, the upper end of which is rounded off and the extension is provided with an opening 12 adapted to receive the outer end of the link 9.
The plate ,6 is formed with an angularly disposed leaf or bracket portion 13, extending at right angles to the plate and formed with an opening 14 to receive the inner end of the link 10. The leaf portion 13 is provided at its outer side with a rearward extension 15 having an opening 16. This extension 15 projects rearwardly from the bracket 13 and extends onto the upper face of the draw bar 2 as shown in Figure 1, where the bolt 17 for the brace 8 will engage within the openings 16 and a nut on the bolt 17 can be screwed downwardly onto to the bolt for securing the extension 15 in position. I V
. It will be apparent that with the use of this improved plate 6, the strain on the end of the draw bar 2 is equalized due to the fact that the plate is not only connected to the links 9 and 10, but is also connected to the draw bar 1 and the diagonal brace 8, thus equalizing the strain between these parts and reduce to a minimum the strain and wear on the end of the draw bar 2.
The plate 6 may be stamped from compartively heavy sheet metal and bent into 2 r i V V r 1,796,013
the required shape as illustrated, or the same may, if found necessary to have the same of comparatively heavy material, be cast in a mold and the openings drilled there 5 in after the cast has been completed.
;It Will be apparent that with the use of this improved device, the various parts illustrated in the l drawings may. be quickly and readily attached to the plate and the plate will assist in holding theparts in their proper positions arid-reduce t-o a'minimumi the Wear on the forward draw bar. 7
While I have shown and described the pre ferred embodiment of my invention, it will v be apparent that slight' changes may be made 'in-itheconstruction When putting the, inven- --:tl0]1 into practice without departing from thespirit of the samebr thescope of'the -.appen-ded claim. 2o ;I-claim:j
A device ofi-the class-described including Qaibody plate,.an;extension:fprojectingzfrom the body plate atone s'ide:-thereo f and'lying inthe same'genera'l plane, an angularly :3 disposed bracketportion projecting from the otherside of the plate .at. right angles-to the plate and the extension, a rearwa'rdly extending part projecting transversely of the ,bodygpllte fl'om one side ofthe angularly I disposed bracket'portion and of a Width sub stantiallyequal'ito one-halfof the Width of the angular bracket portion;said-bodyplate and extension each having :an opening there-y 7 through, said angularsbracket portion and '35 extension each having an opening there through.
