The present invention relates to improvements in ack hammer supporting devlces, used 1n coal and llke nnnes.
One of the important objects of the presv '5 cut invention is to provide a support for a jack hammer, whereby the latter will be held in a horizontal operative position, means being provided whereby said support is capable of vertical adjustment to various heights.
A further object of the invention is to provide a jack hammer support of the above mentioned character, which includes a means for cooperation with the slotted handle of the jack hammer to retain the tool on the table or bed of the support, while in use, additional means being provided for tending to reduce the vibration of the jack hammer while resting on the support.
Still a further object is to provide a jack hammer support that is bodily movable to bring the jack hammer into an operative or inoperative position, the support being further simple in construction, inexpensive,
I strong and durable and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Other objects of the invention will become apparent as the nature of the invention proceeds and when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

bodiment of. my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved support, the same comprising a rectangular shaped wooden base 2.
. Secured on the upper portion of the central portion of the base is the flanged internally threaded socket member 3, the flange 4, thereof being formed with spaced openings to receive fastening screws 5 that are driveninto the top of the base as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. A telescopic standard forms a salient part of the present support, and this telescopic standard includes a lower tubular section 6, which is externallv threaded at its lower end for threaded engagement within the threaded socket 8, and the lowerend of this section 6, engages with the top face of the base 2 This is also shown very clearly in Figure 3 of the drawings. The upper end of the lower section 6 is slidably disposed in the lower end of the elongated tubular intermediate section 7 and a set screw 8 is threaded through an opening in the side ofthe lower portion of the intermediate section for engagement with the upper portion of the lower section for adjusting the adjacent ends of these sections together. One or more of these set screws may be provided as is clearly shown in the drawings.
The telescopic standard further includes the upper tubular section 9 that has its lowerend slidably disposed in the upper end of the intermediate section 7 and set screws 10 which extend radially through the upper 55 portion of the intermediate section engage with the lower end portion of the upper section 9 to adjustably secure the upper section. In this manner, the standard may be adjusted to any desired height.
The upper end of the uppermost section 9 isexternallythreaded for engagement within a threaded opening formed in the central portion of a horizontal plate 11, and as is clearly shown in Figure 2, the plate 11 is disposed es transversely with respect to the rectangular shaped base 2. The rear end of the plate 11 is disposed upwardly asatl2, and the pur pose thereof will be presently described.
A substantially rectangular shaped wooden table or bed 13 is secured on the upper face of the metallic plate 11, in any appropriate manner, and upon this bed or table is adapted to rest in a horizontal manner, the jack hammer designated generally by the letter A. The jack hammer is of the conventional constructionand isprov ided at its rear endwith the handle'B, and in this handle is formed the hand hole C, and the upwardlydisposed rear end portion 12 of the plate 11 is adapted to extend through the hand holeas clearly indicated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings.
For the purpose of preventing undue vibration of the jack hammer while thesame is in operation, I provide the substantially right angular shaped clip shown generally at 14, in Figure 1;. The vertical'side of this clipisformed with an opening 15' that registers with asimilar opening formed in: the upper. end portionof the upwardly disposed rear end 12, and a: bolt 16 extends through the openings. A. nut 17. is threaded on the threaded-endof the bolt for securing the clip in a stationary position, and the horizontal portion of the-cli p willengage with the handle portion B of the jack hammer A in-the manner as'clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings.
Thebase Qis adapted to rest for slidable movement on the planks-18, that rest on the floor of the mine B, and when in operation, the stand-or support with the jack hammer A secured on the bed or table 13 willbe bodily moved along the planks so that the drillE associated with the jack hammer A will be forced into the wall of the mine.
It will thus be seen fromthe foregoing description that I have provided a jack hammer supportthatcan be readily and easily adjusted to various heights and furthermore due to its simplicity, the jack hammer can-be easily and readily secured on the bed or table in a positive and-eflicient manner.
Vhile I have shown theopreferred embodiment of, my invention,-it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new is:
1'. In a support for a ack-hammer, the combination of abase, a standardrising from said base, atransversely disposed plate mounted on theupper endof said standard, a bed supported on said plate and upon which the ack hammer is adapted to rest, said plate at one end thereof terminating in an upwardly: disposed verticalend portion adapted to extendthrough the hand hole in thehandle of the jack-hammer, and a resilient clip detachably secured on the upper end of the said vertically disposed portion of said plate for frictional engagement with the top portion of the han'dle'of saidjack-hammer. adjacent the hand hole'of' said-handle.
