i This invention relates to ties,-'andmore particularly is directed to novel neck-size ad- 'justing constructionsiadaptedto be incorporated in four-in-hand and string ortying bcwties. t
One object of the invention is to provide improved ties ofthe character pdescribed' adapted to be conveniently fitted and worn on any size or style collar. V 7 Another object of the invention is to provide in ties of the character described improved'lengthv adjustment means for easily and quickly fitting various collar sizes to assume proper tying styles or for shifting the knotting tieiportions.
A further object of the invention is to provide in ties of the character described,
an improved collar size adjustment meansincluding collar attachment portions.
Still another object of the invention is to provide improved ties of the character described, each including fewandsimple necksize adjusting parts, which shall be easy to assemble, which shall form. a neat. and attractive apparel with the size adjusting parts inconspicuously incorporated therein, and which shall be inexpensive to manufacture and practical and e'iiicient to a high de gree in use.
be obvious and in'part hereinafter pointed out. 4 s Y The invention accordingly consists in the 4. features of construction, combinations of "elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the constructions'hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims. In the accompanying drawing in' which is shown various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention r Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a string or tying style bow tie constructed to embody the invention showing the inner side of the size adjustable neck band portion. a Fig.2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the outer side of the improved tie size adjustable neck band.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view ofathe tie Other objects of thisinvention will in part neckband, shown in partly cutaway? alongline's 3'3"to expose the improved length or size adjusting means.
Figs, 5jand G are trve views showing two other improved forms of linkand loop connections embody f F1gs.'.7 and Sare cross sectional views ing the invention, and
showing the invention applied-'to secu're dea tachablecollars, the tie band sections shown corresponding to cuts taken on lines 77 and 8..8, respectively, in Figs. 1' and 5, respectively.
Referring structed to embodywthe invention.
Said tie 201s seen'to comprise tWo' parts Fig;' lfis a fragmentary,'enlarged per v spective view oflthe link and loop'connec tions, as' 'shown in Fi 1. fragmentary, perspec in detail to the drawing, 20 denotes a string or tying type of bow'tie con-' 21, which preferably, for this type of tie, are
identical in'sizeland shape' Each part 21 may be made of any su table material such as,
natural or artificial Silk, cotton, wool, linen or other textile'cloth, and is usually formed of an outer or front layer. 22,"an inner or back layer 23 anda lining 24, allsecured together by stitching (not shown) in the Well under-v I stood manner.
The free ends 25 of the tie 20, each forming one end o'f'a part 21, is fashioned fortying The other ends2'6 a desired shape of bow. of the part 21, forming the neck band porsaid tie parts 21. The portions 26a. of the 'tion cf the tie, are looped at 27 through the 7 opening 28a: of a link 28 f or interconnecting ends 26, extending beyond theloop's 27am 7 carried back and are secured byv suitable detachable fasteners. 29 tothe ad acent porin Figs. 1 and 3,
tions of the tie neck band portions as is shown The link 28 be made of a metal stamping or bentlwire andf has the length of its opening 280 formed. to neatly accommodate the Width of theends 26, The link 28has arms 30, which are embraced by the loops 27-, said arms being parallelly spaced apart sub:
stantially, a distance equivalent-to the thick nes'softhe materialsof said loopsso that the-l latter are in abutment andthe outer'sid'e'of the tie neck band portion appears to be con-'1 tinuous and neat appearing since the link is practically inconspicuous. See Fig. 2.
Where the tie 20 is to be worn on a shirt havinga detachable collar, the link 28 may tongue 31 may be positioned to lie in a plane substantially parallel to that of the link arms.
Referring now to Fig. 7 the tongue 31 is here shown to replace the usual back collar button since it may be inserted through the button holes 32a and 33a of the shirt band 32 and collar 33, respectively; When thus used asis now readily understood, said extension tongue serves to retain both thecollar 33 and tie 20 attached to the shirt collar band 32.
The fastener 29 may be of any conventional type, such as a hook and eyelets, or, preferably snap fasteners. The female portions 29a of the fastener 29 is secured to the inner layer 23 on each end 26 of a tie parts in such spaced relation as to correspond to the standard neck sizes, 14,15, 16, 17, etc., and a co-operating male portion 29b is provided on said layer 23 adjacent the extreme end of the tie part 21,
as shown in Fig. 3. I
Suitable size markers or indicating means 34 may be provided on each of said tie ends 26. As here shown said size markers 34 com- I prise tabs 35 extending from the female portions 29a on which the size numeral is imprinted, g
The practical application of the invention -will now be apparent. The tie 20 is con structed and assembled as described above meral desired and the loop 2 7 moved through the link 28 until all the slack is taken out of the tie end 26. In case the tie20 is used for a small neck size only, a second snap fas ten-er male portion 296 may be provided to engage with one of the intermediate female portions as shown in Fig. 3.
The use of the tongue 31 extendingffrom the link 28 has already beendesc'ribed above in connection with F g. 7.
with a tongue 13 1 extending from one end thereof. Said tongue'is bifurcated and is adapted to engage over the head 40a of a back collar button 40 which retains the col- In Figs. 5 and 8, a modified form of the invention is shown, here ,thellink 128 is made 1 r In Fig. 6, the link 228 shown is formed of wire instead of being stamped from sheet metal. -,This link may be used for anchoring the tie either likethe link 28 or 128 shown in Figs. 7 and 8, and described above.
This invention when applied to four-inhand ties (not shown) permits varying the length'of the tie so that the exposed knotted portion of the'tie'can be shifted when it is vention are achieved and which are well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
Asvarious possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in 'the embodiment above set forth,'it is to be understood that Having thus described my invention,"I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: j Y
