This invention relates to Wearing apparel and more particularly refers to improvements in those articles of neckwear, where.
a collar and a tie are permanently combined to form a single unit;
The primary object of this invention is to provide a combination collar and tieof an exceedingly simple and practical design,
which can be produced at relatively low cost 3.0 as compared'to kindred articles heretofore in use. i
Another object is to provide a combination collar-tie of a novel and improved description, which is reversible, washable and sanitary, and which combines into one the advantages of a reversible collar and washable tie. 1
A further object is to provide an article of the character described, which may be 26 manufactured out of a single piece of material if desired, thus further insuring low cost of manufacture without otherwise affecting its usefulness and convenience.
My invention is illustrated by way of eX- ample in the accompanying drawings, in
which:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view in perspective of a combination collar-tie embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same when it is laid out flat;
Fig. 3 is a detail view of a partof the tie portion provided with a button-holed tab;
Fig. 1 is a sectional view thereof taken across line 1- 1 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a detail View in perspective of a modified construction of tab. 7
My invention consists essentially of a washable tie provided with a collar portion laterally extending from one of the edges of its intermediate or neck portion, said collar portion being reversible either way against the surface of the tie to form a folded structure similar to an ordinary turned over collar.
The. collar portion may be made in one piece, the tie being cut in one operation from the same piece of cloth, or else the collar may be made of a different material and may 59 be stitched onto the tie in any suitable manner permitting its being turned one way or the other.
' The complete reversibility of the device is further obtained by forming the tie with tabs cut therefrom along a U or a V line, said tabs remaining attached to the tie along their inner end and forming hinged members which may be bent to one side or the other of the body of the tie.
Referring to the drawings, Figs. 1 to 4:, 6G 10 designates my improved collar-tie combination, comprising a tie portion 11 and a collar portion 12. The tie proper comprises an intermediate or neck portion 13 and two ends 1 1, 1 1, and is provided at the rear with 5 a buttonhole 15 by means of which the tie 'may be fastened in the usual manner to the rear of a shirt neckband.
The collar portion is preferably made in one piece with the neck portion of the tie, as
shown in Fig. 2, but it will be understood that if it should be desirable to use a different material the collar may be attached onto the neck portion of the tie along the folding line indicated at 16 in Fig. 1.
The tie is provided with means for attaching it to the front of the shirt neckband, these means consisting in two tabs 17 17, provided at points substantially equidistant from the buttonhole 15. Said tabs are cut from 3 the cloth along V lines or U lines as shown at 18 and are each provided with a buttonhole 19 through which the front collar button may be inserted before the tie is made into a bow.
The tabs are preferably protected by a 8 stitching all around as shown at 20 and" the edges of the out are likewise protected as clearly shown in Fig. 3. By virtue of this construction, the structure is entirely rever sible so that when it is soiled at one side, the collar may be turned over and thetabs may be shifted to the other side of the tie without the slightest difficulty. It is obvious that by cutting the tabs 17 17 fromthe body of the tie a saving in time, and material is effected; however, it is within the scope of my invention to sew the tabs on if desired, in order to provide a material better able to stand the hard wear at the points of attachment. 7 1
In the device shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the tabs are cut out of the middle ofthe tie body, but it is obvious that if desired, the same can be out along one of the edges of the tie as shown at 21, 21 in Fig. 5.
It will be seen that my improved article of neckwear can be attached to a shirt inv the same way as an ordinary collar and that the same is advantageous from a sanitary standpoint, because the wearer is bound to use a clean tie every time he uses a clean collar; The device is easy and convenient to use and is cheaper to manufacture than other similar articles heretofore in use.v
The invention may be varied in its constructional details without departing from the inventive idea; the drawings will there fore be understood as being intended for illustrative purposes only and not in a limiting sense. I therefore reserve the right to make such. changes as the exigencies of connnercia'l" practice may dictate, and which fall, fairly within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a coin bination collar-tie comprising a tie portion, a collar portion extending laterally of one of the edges of the neck portion of said tic portion, each side extension of said tie portion being provided with an opening rearwardly extending from a point spaced from the center line of the collar portion a distance slightly greater than the peripheral distance between the rear button hole and the front button holes of the neck band of a shirt in connection with which the collar-tie is to be used, and a button holed tab frontwardly extending from the rear edge towards the front edge of each opening, so as to permit of said side extensions being flexibly attached to the neck portion at points spaced from the meeting point of said front button holes.
2. A'combination collar-tie comprising a tieportion, a collar portion extending laterally of one of the edges of the neck portion of said tie portion, said collar portion being reversible about said edge, each side extension of said tie portion being provided with an opening rearwardly extending from a point spaced from the center line of the collar portion a distance slightly greater than the peripheral distance between the rear button hole and the front button holes of the neck band of a shirt in connection with which the spaced from themeeting point of said front button holes.
3. A combination collar-tie comprising a tie portion, a collar portion extending laterally of'oneof the edges of the neck port-ion of said tie portion, a buttonhole at the rear of said neck portion, and a buttonholed tab at each end of said neck portion, said tabs being struck off the body of said neck portion intermediate the edges thereof, and being movable to one side thereof or to the other.
4:. As a new article of manufacture, a combination collar-tie comprising a tie consisting of a central neck and two knot portions in longitudinal alignment therewith, extending one from each end thereof, a collar portion cut integral therewith from the same piece of fabric, extending laterally of the neck portion of said tie portion, and two buttonholed tabs integral with said tie portion, for securing the resulting structure onto the neckband of a shirt, said button holed tabs located one at each end of said central neck portion,
5. A combination collar-tie comprising a tie portion, a collar portion cut integraltherewith from the same piece ef'fabric, extendi g laterally of the neck portion of'said tie portion, a buttonhole thev rear'of said neck portion, and a buttonholed tab at each end of said neck portion intermediate the edges thereof, said tabs being movable to one side or the other of said neck portion.
