CALIFORNIA, assrenoitfro HAROLD, R.
FRENCH, OF EAST 'IBAKER$FIELD, CALIFORNIA V POCKET-COMB CLIP.
f "Application filed October 30, 1929. Serial No. 403,561. I
vent the'comb from falling-from the pocket.
It is also a purpose of my invention to provide a clip for pocket combs which is structurally characterized by its simplicity of construction and consequent low'cost of manufacture, and which is functionally characterized by its easy mode of application to a comb, and to combs of various sizes and having backs of various curvatures.
I will describe only one form of clip for pocket combs embodying my invention and "will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
In the accompanying drawings: 7 r
F ig.- l is a view showing a conventional form of pocket comb having applied thereto shaped as illustrated inFig.
' clamp whichis adapted to embrace the back g at 19. In order that the clamp may be apblank from tion 18, as best illustratedin Fig. 2.
one form of clip.
Fig. 2 is aview showing the clip in end elevation and in a'ppliedposition to a comb- Fig. '3 is a'view showing the clip in top plan and in applied position to a comb.
Fig. i is a which the clip is formed. In carrying out my invention, the clip is formed from a blank of resilient material, I
preferably spring steel, the 7 blank being 4 to provide a body of substantially rectangular outline and an extension 16 projectingfrom one end of the body "and offset with respect to the major axis of the body. The body 15 is bent longitudinally and substantially in the form of a .Uin orderto provide apair of companion scribed combs embodying my invention, it is to be bight por- I These jaws '17 and bight-portion 18 constitute a jaws 17 connected by a rounded of a. comb and to facilitate the application of the clamp to the comb, the marginal edges of the jaws are flared outwardly as indicated plied to combs having straight or curved backs, the body 15 is formed with an opening 20 so as to divide the bight portion 18 into two parts suficiently spaced that the curva view showing in plan a metal ture of the comb back may not interfere with the proper application of the clamp to the comb. 1
The spacing of the jaw 17 is such that in applying the clamp to the comb it is necessary W R I tongue 16 in the direction of the body 15. I,
From its .point of connection with the portion 21, the tongue slants in the direction of the body 15, and its free end terminates in a head22 which is slightly dished as shown. In order to lend strength to the tongue that it may not bend transversely and thus properly function to grip the pocket, it is curved transversely as illustrated.
In practice, the clip is applied to the comb as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 so that the tongue 16 is disposed at one side of the comb. By extending the comb into the pocket so that the'head 22 is lowermost, the cloth form- I tended betweenthe tongue and the clamp so that under the resiliency .of the tongue, the cloth is firmly gripped to retain the comb against accidental displacement from the pocket. i 1 I Although I have herein shown and deonly. one :form of. clip for pocket understood that various changes and modifications may be made'herein without departingfrom the spirit of the invention and'the I claim: I r
1. Aclip for pocket combs comprisinga clampincluding spaced jaws and a bight portion resiliently connecting the jaws, said I bight portion having an opening therein to spirit and scope of the appended claims.
divide thelatter intotwo spaced parts, and
.ing the outer wall of the pocket may be exa tongue resiliently connected to the clamp so as to be disposed at one side thereof.
2. A clip of the character described comprising a single piece of resilient material 1 having a body of substantially rectangular outline bent longitudinally upon itself in the form of a U to form spaced resilient jaws and a connecting bight portion, said body being formed with an opening in the bight portion, a. tongue disposed at one side of the major axis of the body and bent upon itself so as to be disposed at one side of the body and to be urged in the direction of the body, and a head on the free end of the tongue.
3. A clip for pocket combs embodied in claim 2 wherein, the tongue is curved transversely and the head is dished.
