Description

Dec. 23, 019.30. i w. H. MADDEN 1,785,964
PLOW
Filed-sept. 18. 1929 Patented Dec. 23, 1930 UNITED STATE i Massai PATENT GFFICE PLOW Application led September 18, 1929.
This invention relates to plows, and more particularly to the construction of the mold board thereof, the primary object of the invention being to provide a moldboard which may be readily and easily substituted for the usual moldboard of a plow, to adapt t-he plow for use as a terracing plow.
Another object of the invention is to provide a moldboard which is exceptionally long,
so that the dirt and sod may be thrown and spread as desired while terracing.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a moldboard including a removable section which may be readily and easily positioned for use, should it be desired to throw the dirt` laterally, a greater distance than could be accomplished with the usual moldboard. Y
W ith the foregoing and other objects in 29 View, which will appear' as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
33 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow equipped with a moldboard constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view taken at the rear of the plow.
Figure 3 is an elevational view of the moldboard forming the essence of the invention.
Figure l is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the plow stock, which is of the usualpand well known construction, to which the landside G is se cured. At the forward end of the plow is the usual plow point 7. The reference character 8 designates the moldboard of the plow, which as shown, is substantially long, the
i same being provided with openings to receive the bolts 9 that secure the front end of the moldboard in position.
"o As shown, the moldb'oard 8 is curved trans Serial No. 393,505.
versely, in the usual manner, and extends to a point an appreciable distance beyond the rear end of theI landside 6, so that the dirt and materia-l turned over by the moldboard, will be thrown a greater distance than is possible with the inoldboards now in use.
Secured to the rear surface of the moldboard, is a strap 10 into which the extension 11 of the auxiliary inoldboard 12 is positioned, there being provided a pin 13 extend- 60 ed vertically through the extension 11 and engaging the strap 10, to secure the auxiliary moldboard 12 in position.
Shoulders 1d are formed at one end of the auxiliary moldboard 12 and cooperate with 65 the pin 13 in holding the auxiliary moldboard in a true horizontal position.
rllhus it will be seen that by using this auX- iliary moldboard, the dirt or material may be thrown a greater distance than with the moldboard 8, adapting the plow for a par` ticular use.
The usual plow beam is indicated by the reference character 15 and is provided with the usual clevis 16 by means of which the 75 power device may be hitched to the plow. The handles are indicated by the reference 4character 16, and are braced in the usual and well known manner as by means of the braces 17.
I claim:
A plow including a plow stock, an elongated moldboard secured adjacent to the plow stock, a. strap extending rearwardly from the moldboard, an auxiliary moldboard having an extension at one end thereof, said extension defining shoulders to engage the strap, and ,a securing pin extended through t-he extension and engaging the strap to cooperate with the shoulders in holding the auX- iliary moldboard in position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aliXed my signature.
WILLIAM H. MADDEN.
