I INVENTOR.
Patented Dec. 16 .1930
UNITED STATES STEVE PAVLOFF, or oannsfwasnine'ron Application filed May 1, 1929. Serial No. 359,697}
longitudinally of the smoke channel so that this channel may be thoroughly cleaned out and relieved of any accumulation which may have collected therein during smoking.
A second important object of the invention is to provide an improved pipe and stem' wherein the pipe bowl and the stem may both be separated into longitudinal halves by swinging open so that ready access is had to v the interior for cleaning.
A third important object of the invention is to provide means for holding the parts in assembled position, the means being of a novel and improvedcharacter.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed. V
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts inthe several views, and: V
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a pipe constructed inaccordance with this invention. Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof. Figure 3 is an enlarged detail on the line 3-3 of Figure 2, the parts being shown in closed position. Figure 4 is a similar detail with the parts shown in open position.
Figure 5 is a front end View of the pipe. Figure 6 is a detail section on the line 66 of Figure 2. v
Figure 7 is an enlarged detail'section taken longitudinally through the mouth piece of the pipe.
Figure 8 is a side elevation of a cigarette holder constructed in accordance with this invention. V
Figure 9 is a view of the cigarette holder shown in Figure 8 but taken from the opposite side.
In the embodiment ofthe invention shown in Figures l to .7 :there is provided a bowl having abodyconsisting oftwo' halves 10 and. .11; the halves being symmetrical and forniingIhollow semi-cylinders. At one end theseihaljves are fc onne' cted by a hinge12an'd atjthe, other side. there is. provided. a clip 13 to,,l'i'oldthe .two halves in closed position. Moreoteag-i e; bowl is provided with a cap 14having-adepending flange 15zwhich embracesthe top. partflof the bowl and holds the halves=from opening. I This flange carries a clip 16 whichengages a smallknobor pin 17 onthe sidelof the bowl toprevent. accidental '65 loss of the cap. Furthermore, there is fitted on the bottom of the bowlaabase18 havinga flange 19 .surrounding the lower part of the bowland from one side of this fiangeproe jectsla flaring nipple20 for communication with the interior ofthebowl through an opening21. Theflange 19'likewise has a clip 22 engaging a pin 23 on the bowl. It will now be seen that with this arrangement of. the parts the bowl may be held with its halves pressed "together. or may be opened up for cleaning by removing the bottom and top. and releasing. the latch 13. The stem of the pipe likewise consists of two semi-tubular portions 24 and 25 hinged together at one side by the hinges 26 andprovided on, the othe r side with latches 27. One end ofthe stem is arranged to fit the nipple 20' while the other end is tapered as at 28 and on this tapered end fits a tapered mouth piece 29 provided with a latch 30 engaging a boss 31 when assembled on the stem. Likewise the nipple 20 may be provided with a spring latch 32 for engageparts are securely held together.
In the form of the invention shown in Figures 8 and 9 the body of the cigarette holder parts and loosening or releasing the latches ment with a boss 33 on the stem so that the a 37 the cigarette holder may be opened up for cleaning the smoke passage and in like manner the stem of the pipe may be similarly opened up.
5 There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, theref0re, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but'it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. In a pipe, a bowl having a body consisting of two similar halves forming hollow semi-cylinders, a: hinge securing. said halves together at one side, capseach fitting over an end of thebowl to hold the halves in closed position, and a stem receiving nipple projecting from one of said caps and communi- 5 eating with the interior of the bowl.
" 2. In a pipe, a bowl having a body consisting of two similar halves forming hollow semi-cylinders, a hinge securingsaid halves together at one side, caps each fitting over v an end of the bowl to hold the halves in closed position, a stem receiving nipple projecting from one of said caps and communicating with the interior of the bowl, and latch means to secure said caps detachably to thebowl.
3. A pipe structure of the character described, comprising separate bowl and stem sections, each of said sections comprising longitudinally separable parts, means for uniting said parts,'means for uniting said 40 bowl and stem sections comprising'a tapered end upon the stem sections, and a flaring socketed portion upon the bowl section into which the tapering end of the stem section fits, and fastenings for holding the bowl and stein portions against endwise separation.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
STEVE PAVLOFF.
