Description

Patented Dec. 2, 1930 wnrnnsmrenr 'nEenr'rAcLE e n ationfaieanovembei 9, 1926. Serial No. 147,208.
flfr is invention relates toew i r o f "r ceptacles, lsneh as-cigarette andmatch cases, and thelikejadaptedto beused as a bathing suit accessory; and for; like. purposes. 1
:An object of the invention is generally 1 improve the construction jof water-proof receptacles-of the character described so as; to provid a s ru ure. comprisi g f w simple parts, which shall be relatively cheap Q10 to manufacture, and .practicaland eflicient; to-

Said memberjlt is fastened inpo-v sition in any suitable manner, as for example by soldering, mfs shown in Fig.1, by means a The cover 12 is preferably. formed of drawn sheet metal and has sidewalls12 nia defs'ufii-o .c ien'tly I deep to extend beyond, the '(con't'raoted side wall portionslllfifor engaging with a springlatching means 13. positioned in the fde- V pressed portions 11?. plate 18 is resilienti ly-mounted on the inside of'the cover and is opening 11 to form a: tightclosure for the latter. liThe" yieldable ymonnting'qror" said plate may comprise a; bowed spring 19} se curedto the coverby a rivet 20',"tl1e ends of said spring being 'movably seeured to the plate by means of a slot and pin connection, an open. ended slot l9 beingprovided ateach end ofthe spring for, engaging with pins' 21 securedto vtlierplate 118, as isclearly shownin Figs. 1 and 2." In applying said cover, the spring '19 provides substantial. force for effecting the closure of the plate 18 over said opening 11 and the contacting layer 18 of the plate 18 provides an efficient gasket for forming a watertight closure oint at the rim edge 11 of said opening. The slot and pin connection between the plate and the ends of the spring 19 provide easy means for assembling the parts and also permit the spring 19 to exert unrestricted pressure against the plate 18. When it is desired to remove the cover 12 from its effective closed position, the spring latching means 13 is released by simply pressing thefinger-pieces 13int0 the depressions 11 for releasing the protuberances. 13 from engagement with the cover openings 12. The cover may then be readily separated from the container portion 11.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is welladapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing isto be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting 7 sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1. A device of the character described comprising a container portion having a top opening, the side walls of said portion at said opening being contracted, a cover fitted over said opening to extend beyond the contracted side wall portions,'a closureplate adapted to engage the rim edge: of said opening, spring means interposed between the cover and said ,opening, the side walls of said portion at said "opening being contracted, other opposite portions of sidewalls formed with the depression down from said contracted portion, a cover fitted overtsaid opening to extend beyond the contracted side wall portions, a closure plate, aresilient layer carried bysaid plateadapted to engage the rim of saidopeninga spring interconnecting said cover. and plate, and means extending. along the depressed portions of said side walls for releasably "locking the cover on said-container portion to retain the spring in tension against theplatefor form ing a tightjoint with said layer between the plate and said rim. i
3. A device'of the character described comprising a container portion having a top opening, the-side wallsof said portion being provided with a pluralitylofspaced depressions, a spring catch member in each of said depressions and secured to said container, a cover 'fitted'over said opening, said covereX tending partially over said members and adapted to engage with said members for locking the. cover on the container portion, a portion of each of said members extending beyond said cover to permit manual operation ofthe locking engagement.
' 4. A 'devi ceof the character described comopposite side walls of; said container being each provided with a depression, spring catch members in said depressions, a portion of said container adjacent the top opening thereof being contracted-with respect to the crosssectionof said container, a cover fitted over said opening, said cover being extendedto Contact said side walls and havingmeans for engaging with said members for locking the same to said container, a spring pressure member fastened to the cover, a closure plate carried by said pressure member adapted to contactwith the rim edge of said container at said opening, to form a tight joint for sealing the container. v i
5. A device of the character described comprising a container portion having a top opening, the side walls of said portion being provided with longitudinal depressions spaced from the rim portion of said opening, spring catch members said depressions, a cover fitted over said opening, said cover extending over said membersfor engagement therewith for "locking l the cover on the container portion, sai'dopening being contracted with respectto the prose-section of' said porv having a top opening, acover'for said con-' said means comprislng aresihent gasket, a
spring fastened to said cover, and avpm, and 1 tion, and a spring pressed closure plate sus-- pended fro'msaid cover to coact with the rim edge of said opening to form a tight joint for sealing said container portion, said plate includinga resilient layer forcontacting with said rim edge.
6. In a Water tight receptacle of the character described, in combination, a container tainer, and sealing means for said opening,
' slot connection between said springr and gasket.
In testimony whereof affix my signature.
