Application fil edDecemb er 10,1928. jScrial-No. 325,004.
-- This invention relates to a non-splash container for acids and the like, the general object ofthe invention 'being'to for n thelcon: tainer with an enlarged top'portion which 5 forms a'seat at its junction "with therest of p the container and to provide a cover 3 for engaging theseat and a cover torengaging the top part of the enlargement, with means for clamping both covers in closed position, ing means for the inner cover being carried by the other cover.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combinationandarrangement of the several parts, to a be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. 7
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying draw-.
ing wherein like characters denote like or'corresponding parts throughout thev several views, and in which I a p 7 Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the device.v Figure 2'is a top plan View. I 1
In these views, the numeral 1' indicates the container which is formed with an enlarged" upperpart 2, a seator shoulder 3 being formed at the junction of the two. parts. a A
ofthe container and engage the seat 3, and 1 a screw 8 is threaded through the bushing and has its lower. end engaging the knob 9 fornied'on the topof the cover 7 so that when this screw is tightened, the cover 7 is forced against the seat 3,' The cover 5,is held in place by a number of clamps A,'each of which consists of a plate 10 'fastenedto' the cover 5 and having a slotted projection 11 thereon 4 which extends upwardly and inwardly, and
beveled seat 4: is formed at the upper end of the enlargement to receive a cover: 5 which is preferably of wood and which has a bushing6 atits center which is internally screw. threaded; A second cover 7 of dome shape "is adapted to, be placed in the enlarged part hooks 'hapedinember 12 which has a forked inner end,'-fthe prongs ofwhich fit over the,
proje'ctionll, with a pin 13 passing through the prongsand theslot, aset screw 14 pass- .ing through a threaded hole in the hook member and engaging the plate 10 so that by tightening this screw, the hook part ofmember 12 will beforcedinto clamping engagement with the bead 15 formed around the top ofthe enlargement, 2, thus clamping the cover 5 in place. As the screw is loosened,
the pin 13 will pass downwardly through the slot in the projection 11, thus causing the hook part of member 12 to move awayir'om the b'eadso that the'cover 5 can be removed. Suitable'handles l6 are connected with the enlarged part of the -container.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the two covers are firmly held in placeand thus there'is no danger of the contentsof the container splashingtherefrom while theconif tamer 1s belng transported from place to place.
It is thought I It is to be understood thatchanges may be made 1n theconstruction and m the com-binationand arrangement of the several parts, 7
provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprist ing' a container having an enlarged upper ISO 7 from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features a of the invention will be readily apparent. 1
the screw has been turned to a certain positi0n,-for'holding the second cover in place.
2. A container comprising a body parthaving a beveled seat at its upper end, a cover having a beveled'fperiphery engaging said seat, upwardly and inwardly extending slotted projections on the cover, a hook me1nber associated with each projection, a pin passing through the rear end of each hook member and through the slot in each projection and a set screw passing through each hook member and engaging a partof the cover for forcing the hook part into engagement wit-ha part. of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature;
REYNOLD W. PETERSON.
