IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-PACKAGES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,593, dated May 16, 1876; application filed April 21, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, THEODORE VAN SKEL- LINE and FRANK MANNIE, of Williamsburg,i n the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented'certain new and useful Improvements in Dishes for Butter, Lard, 850.; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The nature of this invention consists in the construction of the fastening or clasp of one piece of metal provided with three arms or lips, two of which (the longest) are inserted in holes in the ends of the dish, and clamped on the inside thereof, the other arm or lip being turned down over the edges, and on the inside of the ends of said dish, in such a manner as to securely fasten and hold them together.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a plan or top view. Fig. 2 is a perspective view. Figs. 3 and 4 are views of the clasp as constructed, and which are of such a construc tion as to afford a protection to the ends and corners of the dish, and at the same time firmly secure the ends together. Fig. 5 is an end view. Fig. 6 is aview of the form or blank of the dish, showing the perforations in the sides or ends; and Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional view of said dish.

When it is necessary to make the dish, all that is to be done is to lap the ends together and insert the clasps--i. 0., the ends or lips e e thereot -into the holes, and clinch them on the inside, and thus a strong and firm dish is made; and, further, when it is desired to pack them for transportation, or for stamping or printing, the same is performed while they are in their blank form, as indicated in Fig. 6, previously referred to.

What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,-is

1. The bottom A A, sides B B, and ends (3 G, constructed of one piece of wood, or equivalent material, in combination with clasps D D, all arranged substantially as described.

2. The clasps D D, constructed, as shown and described, with a lip, 6 to embrace the top of the dish, and two arms or lips, 0 0 for the purpose set forth.
