T. L. OWEN.
LAMP-COLLARS. Na.176,546. Patented Apri1Z5,l876.
N. PEIERS, PNOTO-UTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGYON, D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE L. OWEN, OF GENEVA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 176,546, dated April 25, 1876; application filed March 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE L. OWEN, of Geneva, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp Oollars, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1. is a vertical cross-section of my improved lamp-collar, taken through the line.
a: m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention is an improvement upon the attachment for lamps forming the subject of Letters Patent No. 39,253. Said. attachment consists of two plates hinged together, the function of which is to secure the burner to the lamp-collar and permit the lamp to be replenishedwith oil without the necessity of unscrewing the burner.
My invention relates to constructing alampcollar in two parts, to one of which the burner.
spring-catch, D. The upper edge of the lower part B is rabbeted upon its inner side, and the lower edge of the upper part A is rabbeted upon its outer side, so as to form a close joint when the two parts are closed. Upon the inner surface of the lower part B is formed a ring-flange, b, to cover and protect the ocment by which the collar is secured to the lamp.
The lamp-burner is screwed into the upper part A of the collar A B in the usual way.
With this construction the upper part of the collar can be turned back to allow the lamp to be supplied with oil without its being necessary to detach the burner or-the chimney.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A lamp-collar made in two parts, connected together at one side by a hinge, O, and at the other by a spring-catch, D, the upper part A closing down into the lower part B, and the lower part B having a flange, b, upon its inner surface, substantially as herein shown and described.
THEODORE L. OWEN.
