UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
WARREN T. REASER, OF (JENTBALIA, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No, 176,05 3, dated April 11, 1876; application filed January 29, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WARREN T. Bunsen, of Oentralia, in the county of Wood and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Buckle, of which the following is a specification My invention is an improvement in the class of harness-bui-kles having the tongue reversed in positionthat is to say, pivoted to one of the end bars, and resting at its free end on a central cross-bar.
My improved buckle has its central crossbar provided with a stud, which constitutes the means for securing one end of the strap to which the buckle is applied, and also supports the free end of the tongue, which passes through the end of the strap, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a lengthwise section, and Fig. 2 a topplan view, of my buckle and a looped strap to which it is attached.
The frame of the buckle is essentially rectangular in form. The tongue A is pivoted to one of the end bars B, and made about half the length of the frame, as shown. The middle cross-bar D is dropped below the main portion of the frame, and provided with a stud, E. The strap F is passed between the said middle bar D and the end bars B G, and is secured by the stud E, which enters a hole punched therein. The tongueApasses through the end portion G of the strap, and is supported upon the top of the stud. By this construction the tongue is relieved of part of the strain to which the strap would be subjected if it were passed through both parts of the strap, and constituted the sole means of fastening or securing them. The stud prevents the end of the tongue pressing upon and thereby puncturing the strap or abrading its surface, besides holding the tongue at a more acute angle with the side bars of the buckle-frame than it would assume if passed through both parts of the strap.
What I claim is- The improved buckle, formed of the frame having the short tongue A pivoted to the end bar thereof, and the middle cross-bar D, having the stud E, for securing the strap and supporting the free end of the tongue, as shown and described.
