BUCKLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 398,028, dated February 19, 1889.

Application filed August 18, 1888. Serial No. 233,067. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE P. COLE, of J ohnstown, in the countyof Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Harness-Buckle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a front view of my improved harness-buckle. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is an edge view. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 5 is a detailed perspective view of the buckle-wedge.

My invention is in the class of buckles havin g an.adj ustable wedge for clam pin the strap or trace beneath a cross-bar of the buckleframe.

The improvement will be hereinafter pointed out.

ThebodyA of the buckle consists of a frame having side bars, a, end bars, I) and b, the central elevated cross-bar, 0, side loops, (7, and web 6, extending across the buckle from one bar a to the other and provided with-a slot, f. The end of the buckle-frame forming the bar I) is bent rearwardly, and the end of the frame forming the bar Z) is bent outwardly, and upon the said bar Z) is formed aloop, g. Between the side bars, a, and upon the slotted web 6 is placed the wedge B, which is provided with a slot, 71, corresponding with the slot f of the web 6. The wedge B is also provided with a stud, @which projects downward into the slot f of the web 6.

The shank j ofthe buckle-tongue C extends through the sloth of the wedge B and through the slot f of the web 6, and is either provided with a nut, k, or with its equivalent burr held in place upon the said shank by riveting. The tongue 0 is provided with a shoullines, Fig. 4.

My improved buckle is more particularly designed for the traces of a harness. The trace is inserted underneath the bar I) and under the bar 0, while the wedge 13 and the buckle-tongue C are drawn away from said bar as far as practicable, as shown by full (Such adjustment of the wedge and tongue is practicable by loosening the nut is.) Having thus fully described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The combinationnvith a buckle-body, A, provided with the slotted web 6, of the slotted wedge B, and the buckle-tongue C, having the shank gj inserted in the slots of the said wedge and web, substantially as shown and described.

2. The combination, with the buckle-body A, having its ends curved in opposite directions and provided with the slotted web 8, substantially as described, of the slotted wedge.B, provided with a stud, 7:, and the buckle-tongue C, having the shank j, and furnished with the shoulder Z and nut k, substantially as shown and described.
