Description

0. S. BALDWIN.'
COMBINED PEN-DRAWER, BLQTTER AND ERASER. No.175,08. Patented Marchv21,1876.
ILPETERS, wumumoompusa. WASHINGTON. D Q
UNITED STATES ORAN S. BALDWIN, OF BRQOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED PEN-DRAWERS, BLOTTERS, AND ERASERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 75,00S, dated March 21, 1876; application filed February 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORAN S. BALDWIN, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Combination Pen'Drawer, Eraser, and Blotter, of which the following is a specification 1n the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view, and Fig. 2 an end view, of my improved combination pen-drawer, eraser, and blotter.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved device for office use, that combines the advantages of blotter and eraser, with the easy drawing out of pens from the pen-holder, without using the fingers for that purpose; and it consists of a central handle-part with blotter-retaining spring-wires, and having a rubber socketed to one end and pen-drawing pliers and erasingknife at the other end.
In the drawing, A represents the handlepart of my improved device for office use, to which one or more layers of blotting-paper are applied by longitudinal retaining springwires B, that are secured to channels and endsockets a of the handle, so as to be readily taken out and replaced, as required, for putting on the blotter. One of the end sockets carries a rubber head, 0, of round or other shape, for erasing pencil-marks, while the other socket secures the pen-drawing pliers D, which have jaws corresponding to the shape of the common steel pens, and a lug and hole to enter the slots of the same, for the purpose of firmly clamping and holding the pen when withdrawing the same from the holder. The thumb is placed on the rest-piece of the swinging jaws of the pliers when taking hold of the pen. The stationary jaw of the pliers D is firmly secured to handle, and provided with a forward-projecting ink-erasing knife, E, so t'lat the device may be used for the purposes of blotting, erasing pencil and ink marks, and drawing pens in a very handy and convenient manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combined implement herein described, consisting, essentially, of the handle A, blotter B, eraser-head G, pen-drawing nippers D, and blade E, as and for the purpose specified.
