WELLINGTON L. SIEGEL, OF WILKES-BARBIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
ERASER-IOOL.
Application filed. August 12, 1911.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, NELLINc'roN L. SIE- cnL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Eraser Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a tool especially adapted for erasing ink, and designed especially for the use of draftsmen, the tool including a burnisher adapted to smooth over the erased portion in order that the proper surface can be again used for inking.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is an inverted plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 8 is an enlarged side elevation of the portion of the erasing end. Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the tool provided with a pencil eraser at the handle end. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a side elevation showing a modified construction of the handle.
In these drawings I have shown a one piece steel tool which comprises a substantial flat handle portion 1 slightly enlarged at its base as indicated at 2 in order to prevent the hand from slipping along the tool while in use, and below said enlarged portion of the handle 1 is a short straight shank 3 which is connected to a curved bow portion 4 which bow portion is also widened as shown in Fig. 1 and the smooth curved surface of said how portion forms a burnisher. The bow portion is in turn connected by a compound curve to a slightly curved eraser Specification of Letters Patent.
nisher between the eraser and handle.

portion 5 which tapers, and which upon the under side is provided with a series of forwardly extending obliquely arranged teeth 6, shown most clearly in Figs. 1 and 3. These teeth are parallel to each otherand act in the nature of a file.
It will be noted that by this construction the burnisher, eraser and handle are in practically a straight line, with the bur Gonsequently the inclination which the handle makes with the paper determines whether the burnisher or eraser is brought to bear upon it.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a clamp 7 for a rubber eraser 8 which is formed by widening the rear end of a handle l and bending over the marginal portions to inclose and grip the rubber 8.
In Fig. 6 I have shown a modified form of handle in which a round wooden handle 9 is fitted upon the shank 3, and this handle carries at its rear end a suitable ferrule which carries a rubber eraser 11.
In all of these forms the burnisher and eraser device is the same.
What I claim is An eraser tool comprising a handle portion, a shank carried by one end of the handle portion, said shank being widened and bent into a bow portion to form a burnisher, and a longitudinally curved eraser portion integrally connected to said bow portion by a compound curve, the underside of said eraser portion being serrated to form a plurality of parallel cutting teeth.
