, specification, in which- Figure l is a view of the mold partly in section. Fig.2 is a view of the plu'nger, and Fig. 3 a section of a pressed glass article.
Like letters refer to like parts wherever they occur. i I e My invention relates to molds for the man ufacture of pressed glassware; andconsistsin combining with the-bottom plate of a pressmolda-"peg provided with athread; which .engages with the threaded opening of the bottom plate, thus guiding and centering the peg, and insuring the regular and even withdrawal of the same.
I will now proceed to describemy invention so that others skilled in the art to which it appertains may make and use the same.
A represents the bottom plate, provided with a raised portion,a, over which fits the mold B, which, in the present instance, is a drop-mold. O is the ordinary ring, and I) a plunger, which,like-the mold, is adapted to the article to be produced, all of which may be of any approved form.
E is the bottom peg, provided with a forming-thread, c, which projects above the bottom plate A when thepeg is raised to its highest position, and below the upper thread 0 is a smooth section or even surface, 6 which fits closely 'thecollar formed by the projecting portion a of the bottom plate. The diameter of peg E belowthe plain portion 0 is increased so as-to form a shoulder, c which works against the under side of a, and acts as a stop. A supplemental "thread, e ,is .formed&
upon the enlarged portion of the peg, and a corresponding thread is tapped-in the central opening of the bottom plate, care being taken to givethesuppleniental thread the same pitch as the th d when the ployed', so that the article formed will not be distorted in drawing the peg. The peg may be provided with a base collar or disk,- e, and terminates in a shaft, F, provided with a pinion, G, which gears with a, rack, H, or equivalent device, for rotating the peg.
I The operation of these devicesis as follows:
- of the wedge, the peg will be withdrawn by a positive power which, from its location,
guards against any lateral play of the peg or distortion of the article of glassware formed -inrthe mold.
' The advantages of the construction specified are, first, that-all lateral play of the peg is avoided; secondly, a positive andregular power is made use of to withdraw the eg from the article; and finally, where the pitch of the threads 6 and e are the same, all liability of distorting the thread formed in the pressed article is counteracterL' I am aware that a vertically-movable mold section-threaded on the projecting portion and withdrawn by rotation has been used in conjunction with the supporting-frame of a mold for blown ware, and distinctly disclaim such a device or devices but,
I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- glassware, the combination of the threaded bottom plate, the peg provided with a thread, which engages with the thread in the bottom-plate, and suitable means for withdrawing the peg, substantially as specified. 2. In molds for the manufacture of pressed glassware, the combination of the threaded ,bottom plate, provided with ring a, the peg provided with a plain portion, 0 and a threaded portion of greater diameter than the plainportion, and suitable meansfor withdrawing the peg, substantially as specified.

3. In molds for the manufacture of pressed Having thus described my invention, what 1. In molds for the manufacture of pressed Q glassware, the combination of the threaded bottom-plate, the peg provided with a forming-thread, and a supplemental or withdraw ing thread of equal pitch, and suitable means for rotating the peg, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I, the said BENJA- MIN BAKEWELL, Jr., have hereunto set my hand.
