Description

Feb. 25, 1930. A, c, STRAYER BAG Filed Aug. 2. 192s IIIIJ JS/ayr usual orpreferred construction and is pref f 11, which is preferablymade of several thick-l Patented Feb., 25, i193() ARTHUR CLARE srRAYEmoF BRI'GHTON, rEcNNsizLvANyIA Application filed August 2, '1828i tSerialV vNo.,,?, 97',0 "2.
Y This invention relates. to bags and more f `particularly to a coin bagfor use in making deposits in banks and otherwisetransporting l coins ora mixture of coins and currency.' 5,v 1 An important'object ofthe vinvention is to, provide a bag of suchv construction that it may be very readily opened and closed and when closed, will provide a secure seal, pref venting the escape of coins andthe likefrom` v`10 the mouth of thezbag. c a i j A further object of the invention is to proy vide a vdevice of this character which is sub- -stantially free from' metallic elements which 'will interfere with or render -diiicult hanl y15 dling thereof and which is so constructed that i the closure flap may be secured either yin its sealingvposition or ina 'second position where' j f Vit in no way interferes with the insertion orr removal of the contents of the bag.. Y I n These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and whereinzv Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bag constructed in accordance-with my invention, il-
lustrating the bag in the position which theV fiap occupies when the bag is being simply employed as a container;
Figure 2 is a similar View showing the flap in thevposition which it occupies in'closing f .f the mouthl ofl the bag, the dotted llines indieating the flap in its extended-'condition Figure 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Figure 2;
ure .1. t Y
Referring now more particularly to the an open-topped bag which 'maybe of; any
erably of some heavymaterial, sothat it will not be Vrapidly ,destroyed by friction of its contents; In accordance withl my invention, AI secure to the bag wall lat the mouth a flap nesses of material, as more clearlyv shown in Figure 4,- so that itwill be relatively stiff. This flap isvpreferably attached to the bag by providing the lower edge thereof with an 1nnfastener' elements 15 and 16; engaged with one another. rIhe extensions 1,6 of the flap' with one.l another.
thereagainst upon either face thereof and the Figure 4 1s a section on the line 4 4 of Fig-dA drawing, the numeral 10, generally indicatesl ing the'bag into or withdrawing the bag` fromk tegral and single ply extension 12which is stitched to the bag wall at the interior there-v of, as Vindicated at'13. This flaphas' atits 4center one element lll/of asnap fastener,v the' a Asecondelement lof whichis secured tothe 55` outer face ofthe wall kofthe bag opposite that to whichthe .iap is secured,'so thatthe flap may be folded'over this wall andsecured r inA its yfolded position. yThe flap has at its endsv extensions 16 of a greater combined 601 lengthfthanjthe width of the bag at the mouth, so lthatthejse extensionsy when folded upon thejiap or upon the wall of the bag 'may be overlapped. l Outer ends of these eX-kV tensions bearv the 'coacting elements of snap e5*v a fasteners, indicated at l7and18 respectively. v`When` the bag is in use as 'a carrying receptacl'e fori transporting' money p from place lto place, theflap 1:1 is folded .down and the sua-p aregthen foldedupon t-he face of the bag or thatv facefto which the flap A'is attached andthefsnap fastener elements 17 and 18 engaged Y Theseflap extensions act to. hold they ends ofthe flap in close engagement tothe bag wall, so thatthere is acom- A plete `seal of the mouth of the bagv at. the corners thereof and,l at the same time, provide a handle, ybyfmeans of whichtlie bag may be transported. When notlin.usefortranspor-` Y tation of. coin, the Hap maybe swung toitsy open positions, the extensions 16 folded Vback snap fastenerlelements'17and 18 engaged withl one another; lAA handle is thus proy vided, vby means of'jwhich thebagmaybe manipulated in moving'thesame from place i toplaoe upon a cashiersvcounter or iny inserta pocket or other receptacle.k The Vconnec-' Y tionsprovided are such that a few secondsare 'd occupied in opening orf-closingthe bag, thus. materially facilitatingthe work of the cashier VVas compared with that necessitated by the 2 i u l 1,748,529
I claim f 1. In combination, a coin bag open at one overlie the rear side of the bag With their ends in overlapped relation, and means free of engagement with the front and rear sides of the bag and adapted to detachably connect. Y
the overlapped ends of the extensions together, the extensions being adapted to be used as a handle for the bag when they are secured together and when the ap is secured to the front side of the bag. g
2. In combination, arcoin bag open at one end, a closure flap attached to the rear side Y Y of the bag, the flap .being adapted to extend across the open end of thebag and overlie hc front side thereof, that portion of the iiap adapted to overlie Vthe front side of the bag beingV reinforced and said reinforced portion being provided with extensions adapted to ove-rlie the rear side vof the bag with their en dsin over-lapped relation, means adapted to detachably connect the reinforced portion of the flap to the front side ofthe bag, and means adapted to detachably connect the overlapped ends of the reinforced extensions together.
8. VIn combination, a. coin bag open at one end, a closure flap att-ached to the rear side of the bag, the liap being adapted to extend across the open end of the bag and overlie the front side thereof, that portion of the flap adapted to overlie the front side of the bag being reinforced and said reinforced portion being provided With extensions adapted to overlie the yrear, side of the bag With their ends in overlapped relation, means adapted to deta-chably connect the reinforced aportion of the Hap to lthe front side of the mg, and means free of engagementwith the sides of the bag and adapted to detachably connect thc overlapped ends of the reinforced extensions together, the extensions being adapted to be used as a handle for theV bag When theiriends aresecured together and the iap is secured to the front sidcof the bag. In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
