' JQSEIPMH MARA, OF CHICAGO, `IIIJLINOIS i column CIGARETTE case AND usaran ,Application mea march 31,1928. serial No. 266,188.
This invention relates .to a combined cigarette case and lighterfa'nd has among its'objects to provide a new-and useful device of in construction but convenient foruse.
It is'also an object of my invention to provide a case having` a storagecompartment, for cigarettes and an adjacent compartment provided with a lighter containing an inflammable liquid with 'a wick and a rictionally operable flint ignitor, which ignitor automatically operable by the opening of the casecover to ignite the wick and thus in one operation present to view the open cigarette container and a lighted wick. 1
A. further object of my invention resides in the provision of a case having a cigarette compartment andl la lighter compartment separated by a partition wall which extends above the open top of both compartments, but` which is arranged to be covered by v,the case 'cover when not in use, and such partition Wall being arranged to removably Ksupport the igniting vmechanism and also form one side .of the inflammable liquidcontainer, thus simplifying the construction of my device.
A-still -urther object of my invention is to provide the cover of my case with 'a latch bar which shall not only releasably latch the cover of thec'ase in closed position, but which latch bar shall be arrangedto operate lor rotate the friction Wheel of the int ignitor upon the quick opening of the spring actuated case cover.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel combination, construction and arrangement oi the parts and members shown in preferred embodiment in the ,attached drawings, described in the following specifications and particularly pointed out in the appended claim. y e
Referring to the illustrations Fig. 1 is a plan view of a combined cigarette case and lighter in open position and embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on line 2-2 of: Fig. 1, showing the interior construction and arrangement. L
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the case in open position.
Fig. 4 isa section taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 2, showing the lighter device.
Referring nowin more detail to the several illustrations, I provide a case 1() having a front wall 10A, a rear wall 10B, side walls 10C and a bottom 10D. l The case 10l is open at the upper end and provided with a hinged cover 11 having a front Wall 11'?, rear Wall 11B, side walls 11C and a top portion 11D. f A suitable hinge 12 is provided for the cover, the rear wall 11Bthereof with the rear wall 10B of the case.
The hinge 12 is provided with a coil spring 13, one end of which is in engagement wit the rear wall 11B and the other end with the rear 'wall 1()B and which spring is thus adapted to quickly ,and orcibly swing the into openfposition upon its release from Vlatched position.
The case 10 is provided with a cross partition 1()E which divides the interior thereo into two compartments,`namely, a cigarette or cigar compartment A and a lighter compartment B.
The wall 10E also a separate container fluid 15.
A wick 16 is provided which extends from the interior of the fluid container 14 through its top under the igniting comprises a tubular threaded member 17A. a loosely mounted sparking iint 17B., a cap 17 C, which is supported on the end of the member 17A, a coil spring 17D adapted to press the flint 17B against the friction wheel 17E and a pair of ears 17F supporting the friction wheel 17E on the tubular member 17A. l
The container 14 is provided with an opening 14B in its top through which theinilammable iluid may be poured intolthe containerf 14 and a screw plug 14A is employed to close said openin A iiexible retalning bar 18 secured at one end to the inner face of thev iront wall 10A is providedwith .a push pin 18* rigidly forms the .rear wall of 14 for the inflammable 'front wall 10L for manual operation.
