This invention relates to new and useful improvements in gloves for general use in handling materials and for swimming purposes.

The invention has for an object the provision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, dependable in use and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

The invention proposes the use of a glove having a wrist strap connected with a palm portion, and webbed fingers connected with the said palm portion. The material should preferably be of sheet rubber or cloth though other material may be used, such as rubberized cloth. The finger portion should have tubular extremities for encasing the end por' tions of the fingers. A holder may be attached to the wrist strap for retaining the palm portion, the finger portion and the web portion in a folded disengaged condition from ones palm and fingers.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The reference numeral 10 indicates generally the wrist strap of a glove having a palm portion 11, finger portions 12 and a web 13. The wrist strap has a rear portion 14 integral at its ends with the sides of a front por- Serial No. 345,286.

tion 15 which is integral at its top with the palm portion 11. The palm portion is shaped to cover the entire palm of ones hand.

Each of the finger portions 12 have tubular extremities 16 for encasing the end portions of the fingers, and integral with strip base portions 17 for covering the inner side of the fingers only. The web 13 extends from the tips of the fingers to the palm and is of sufiicient length so that the finger portions may be in spread condition. Preferably the fingers 12 are cemented to the web portion which in turn is cemented upon a portion of the palm portion 11. Instead of co ment, stitches or other fastening means may be used. A holder 18 for retaining the palm portion, the finger portion and the web portion in a folded condition disengaged from ones palm and fingers is shown attached upon the outer side of the front portion 15 of the wrist strap. This holder will be hereinafter described in detail.

In the modified form of the device illustrated in Figs. 5, 6 and 7, a glove has been shown formed with wrist strap 20 connected with a palm portion 21 and provided with finger portions 22. These finger portions are secured upon a web 23 which is integral with the palm portion 21. The wrist strap has a rear portion 24: integral at its ends with the sides of a front portion 25 integral at its top with the palm portion 21. The rear portion 24: is made of two sections overlapping each other as at 29 and connected by snap fas teners 30. The finger portions are formed by a strip of material 26 shaped to provide tubular openings for the fingers and extending along the web 23 and secured in fixed position by stitches 31. A holder 18 for retaining the palm portion, the finger portions and the web portion in a folded condition disengaged from ones palm and fingers is secured upon the outer face of the front portion 25 of the wrist strap.

The holder 18 consists of an upper strap 32 of elastic material attached at its ends to the front portion of the wrist strap by stitches 33, and an adjacent lower strap 34 attached at its ends to the front portion of the wrist strap also by stitches 33. The upper strap is of weak elastic material and the lower strap is of very tough elastic material relative to the material of the upper strap. A plurality of transverse leaf springs 35 are disposed beneath the upper and lower straps so that their central portions extend across the adj acent edges of the straps, and tlreend portions of the leaf springs pass thru apertures 36 formed in the straps, and these end portions are secured upon the outer facesot the straps by stitches 37.

In a stretched condition of ones hand the glove may be retained in engagement thereon. In this condition the glove may be used for swimming purposes to add to the efficiency of each stroke ot'the swimmer, or the glove may be used for handling materials. The transverse leaf spring 35 serves as guides so that the material of the glove may next :be forced beneath the lower strap which is ofverytough elastic material. In this condition ofthe deviceitis disposed upon ones wrist without any inconvenience to the wearer, permitting the free use of the hand.
