M. A'WNER. TROUSERS BELT. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 28, 1920.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 17,1921.
Application filed J'une' 28, 1920. Serial No. 392,432.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYRON AWNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at 5123 Michigan Ave, Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Belts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trousers-belts, and has for its general object to provide a belt, to be worn inside of the trousers and engage with the inside suspender-buttons, that will be simple, inexpensive, convenient, comfortable, and readily detachable but suitably held in place so that the belt can be put on and taken off with the garment. In the drawing wherein I have illustrated an embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the belt, showing the manner of its applica tion to the trousers; Fig. 2 is a detail of astifi'ening arrangement; Fig. 3 is a detail of a retaining strap arrangement and Fig. 4 is a section of line 4E4 of Fig. 2. I employ a suitably broad fabric belt or band 5, preferably elastic and of rather thick webbing (such as truss-webbing) provided with any suitable form of buckle 6 ,or other adjusting means, whereby it may conveniently be fastened about the waist. At those points on the fabric band that will register with the inside trousers-buttons a on the garment b I provide notched reinforced portions, the reinforcing members 7 being preferably in the form of thin metallic stifi'eners, which may be flexible steel plates. In the form shown each plate, thin enough to yield measurably for the wearers comfort, extends verticallv and is almost as long as the belt is wide. Such plates I secure in 7 position in any suitable fashion, preferably by inclosing each of them in a pocket formed by stitching a narrow piece 8, of leather, to the webbing by marginal stitching lines 9. I notch the top of the reinforced belt structure as at 10 to receive the shank, or the shank forming attaching threads, ofthe buttons a, and in association with each of these notches I provide a retaining strap 11. This strap is preferably a piece of narrow elastic webbing, of length suitable to be easily grasped in the fingers, and it is stitched, as at 12, to the inner side of the band 5, so that when not under tension the strap lies parallel with the upper edge of the belt and somewhat below the notch. It is my preference that the notch shall be formed in both the belt web- I bing and the metallic stiffening, and that the webbing notch be button-hole stitched as I at 13 to'prevent raveling although variation may be made in such details, as the more 9 important item is suitably to provide a belt with upwardly open notches, and with each I notch to associate a retaining strap to go over shank of the button.
In use, one attaches the belt to the trousers by placing each button-shank in a corresponding notch 10, and then snapping the adjacent, elastic retaining-strap over the to of the button shank. This connects the be t 1 to the garment, so that the two may be put on and taken off together. Of course such an inside belt has numerous advantages in properly supporting and positioning the garment and the construction that I have described has many special advantages in matters of facility of application and removal, comfort, manufacturing economy, simplicity, and durability.
I claim:
1. An inside trousers-belt having upwardly-open notches to receive button shanks and, for respective notches, resilient retaining members extending horizontally of the belt below the notches adapted to pass over the buttons and engage the upper side of their shanks.
2. An inside trousers belt having upwardly-open button-receptive notches and, adjacently below each notch, a horizontal elastic button retaining strap secured to the belt beyond the sides of the notch and adapted to snap over a button to retain it' in the-notch. 7
3. An inside trousers-belt having vertical reinforcing members disposed in buttonnotched, and elastic straps secured to the inner side of said webbing band horizontally below the notches and arranged for ready engagement with the notch-received 5 button-shanks.
5. A' garment belt comprising a broad, c, I
elastic webbing band, transverse thin flexible MYRON AWNER.
