Description

E. ANDREAE.
SANITARY BANDAGE FOR LADIES USE.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 27- 1919.
Patented Feb. 17,1920.
EMMELINE ANDREAE, OF EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND.
SANITARY BANDAGE FOR LADIES USE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 27. 1919. Serial No. 326,956.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, E'MMELINE ANDREAE, formerly of 17 Lennox street, and now of Ravenslea, 99 Trinity road, Edinburgh, Scotland, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Bandages for Ladies Use, of which the following is a specificationJ This invention relates to supporting means for sanitary towels for ladies use, of the type in which a supporting band or shield carries the towel and has its ends detachably and adjustably connected by elastic or other means to strips depending from an elastic or other belt around the waist. An arrangement of this type has been proposed having depending strips with a series of eyelets intended to "be passed through loops; on the towel and secured to a hook on the belt.
In accordance with the present invention the waist belt is provided with back and front depending strips each provided with two rows of eyeleted holes to receive hooks on two pairs of elastic straps extending from the supporting band so as to allow for any adjustment in length the wearer requires. The towel supporting band may be made of batiste or like material or of goldbeater-skin or of other waterproof material.
The depending strips are double or are made with pieces of separate material which are sewn to the depending strips or to the waist belt-in such a way that there is always material covering the points or ends of the hooks so as to prevent injury to the body of the wearer.
The waist belt is threaded through a doubled portion formed in the upper ends of the depending strips of material.
In order that this invention may be clearly understood, I have hereunto appended an explanatory drawing showing a perspective view of the improved means for supporting a sanitary towel.
In the form shown on the drawing the supporting band or shield a is provided with two pairs of cross straps or tapes 6 beneath which the sanitary towel c is held, the ends of the towel being provided with loops d which are engaged by buttons 6 on the ends of the band a at the opposite side thereof.
In order that the band a may be readily relatively broad pendant front and rear supporting members and the separate pieces of material of which they are constructed form inner and outer plies or thicknesses. The inner plies or thicknesses form the inner Patented Feb. 17, 1920.
protecting flaps and the straps g are connected to the outer plies or thicknesses.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a bandage of the character described, the combination of a waist belt, front and rear relatively broad pendant supporting members provided with attaching elements arranged at the lateral edges of the pendant members and spaced apart, said pendant supporting members being slidably connected at the top with the belt and carried by the latter, a supporting shield, and spaced straps arranged in pairs and located at the ends of the supporting shield adjacent the sides of the same in substantial alinement with the attaching elements of the supporting members and provided with means for engaging the said attaching elements.
2. In a bandage of the character described, the combination of a waist belt, front and rear relatively broad pendant supporting members slidably connected at the top with the belt and carried by the latter, said pendant supporting members being composed of inner and outer plies, the outer ply being provided with eyes arranged at the lateral edges of the same and spaced apart, a supporting shield, and spaced straps arranged at the ends of the shield adjacent the sides of the same in substantial alinement with the eyes of the supporting members and provided with hooks for engaging the said eyes.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
EMMELINE ANDREAE.
