Application filed September The `lock is particularly applicable to front doors, and comprises thumb latch means, and key and knob operated means to retract a single draw bolt.
It is prefeable in so called front door locks to provide the door on the outside with a handle, thumb vlatch draw bolt retracting means and key ope ated draw bolt retracting` means; and on the inside with knob operated draw bolt retrac'ting means.'
An object of my invention is-to provide a novel lock of this character the draw bolt of which maybe independently retracted either by a knob, key, or a thumb latch.
An object is to provide a novel lock of this character in which each one of thediaw bolt rctracting means is operable, irrespective of whether or not the other retracting means are rigidly held in normal position.
'Another object is to provide a novel lock of this character, in which one or all of the draw bolt retracting means may be securely lockedA from the inside of the door.
A further object is to provide a novel lock of this character in which the thumb latch means may be locked from the inside of the door and still permit retraction of the draw bolt by operation of either the knob or key operated retracting means.
Further objects are to provide a lock which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, andeflicient in operation.
Advantages of my invention are to provide a. lock, the body of which may be formed in a single casting, 4and which may be quickly and easily installed in a door.A
This application includes certain novel features more particularly shown and described in my copending application filed August 3l, 1925, Serial Number 63,548; and may be said to apply the key and knob op; erated lock shown in said application to a front door.

A draw bolt 4 is provided at its inner end with a crosshead Ll and said draw bolt in cludes a sleeve 5 which extends toward the free edge D of the door and is 4journalled in an orifice 5" formed in the body l. The crosshead 4 and sleeve V5 is providedwith a bore 6 in which )in 7 is adapted to slide ingly lit. The pini? is provided with a reduced end 7 vthat extends through the body 1 and is riveted over at its outer end to secure the pin to the body 1. The pin 7 serves to support the draw bolt 4 `and Iacts as a 'guide for the saine. A compression spring 8 surrounds the pin T and operates between the ci'osshead 4 and lock body and tends to normally hold the draw bolt in latching position.
The draw bolt also includes Ia latch member tha-t is formed with a threaded shank 10 which is threaded into vthe sleeve 5 a predetermined distance so that the latch member extends trom the tree edge oft the door a sutlicient distance. A rguide plug 11 is driven into the outer end ot the bore C -iiush with the edge D to close said bore, -and said plug is provided with an opening 12 in which the latch member 9 is adapted to slide. The outer periphery ot' the Iplug 11 is serrated as at 13, so 'that the plug 12 will not accidentally protrude beyond lthe :free edge D of tlie door.
Knob operated draw bolt retracting means f 14 is provided to retract the draw bolt from the inside of the door and such means coinprises a -disc 15 'formed on the inner end of an oscillating shaft 16 which entends from the disc 115 land is jou'rnalled in the eXtension 2. The disc 15 is mounted between the closed rend ot the lock body 1 Vand the crosshead 4 and is yot sufficient thickness to fill the space therebetween so lthat end play of the shaft 16 is .practicallyY eliminated.
The outer Iend of the shai't 16 may lbe reduced in diameter if desired and yis threaded as at 17 to receive a 'handle 18 which bea-rs against the shoulder 19 't'ormed by reducing the outer end of 'shai't 16.
An arcuate lug 20 formed on the disc 15 projects inwardly therefrom and the crosshead 4 rests against both ends of said lug' under pressure xo't ithe spring 8. As the shaft 1.6 is oscillated either to the right or left by the fhafndle 18 one end of the lug 20 w-ill Jforce lthe crosshead 4 against the tension Iot spring 8 and thereby retract the draw bolt 4.
Key operated draw bolt retracting means is provided to retract vthe draw bolt troni the outside of the door and comprise a cylindrical key lock 21 which is screwed into the bodav 1 in axial a-linement with the shaft 16. A disc 22 having an arcuate :lug'23 similar to disc 15 and lug 2() is secured to the key operated tumbler 21 ot the lock 21.
The ends ot the lug 23 rest against lthe crosshead 4 in the same 'manner .as before described in connection with the lug 20. lh en `the tumbler .21 is oscil-lated the dra-w bolt 4 will be retracted, irrespective of whether or not the handle 18 is rigidly held.
-A cover plate 24 is secured to the inside of the -door by any suitable means. such as screws 25, and the shaft 16 Iextends therethrough. A clamp nut 26 is threaded onto the extension 2 and has a shoulder 26 that bears against the plate 24.
An outside cover plate 27 is secured to the outside yot the door A by lany suitable -mea-ns such as 'screws 28 and lis provided with an orifice 27 through which the key lock 21 protrudes. A sleeve 29 threaded onto said lock bears against the plate 27 and clamps the door between the shoulder 26 and the inner end ot said sleeve 29 and thus positions and iirmly holds the lock body 1 in the bore B.
