ALPHEUS ALTORFER, OF PEORIA, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO ALTORFER BROS. COM- P, OF EAST EEORIA, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.

original application filed January 18,
This invention has reference to washing machines and relates particularly to that type of machines intended for domestic use in the home.
a 'The invention has for its principal object to improve the frame structure in which to mount the Washing element and operating means therefor.
p This application is a division of the application filed by me January 18', 1922, bearing Serial No. 530,012.
Thatthe invention may be more fully understood reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the description, illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention, in which v Figure 1 is a side elevation of a washing machine frame embodying my invention; ig looking in at the right hand side of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 a same would appear, if taken on the line 3-3 Figure 1.
Like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the figures.
The frame includes spaced end supports 1, 1, preferably made of angle iron and each bent into the form of an inverted U, but with the ,upper arcuateend of each frame resembling more an inverted V, which not only makes a saving in material, but which also beautifies the design of the frame. To the lower end of each leg of the end supports is secured a bracket 2 oarryin a caster-wheel 3'to make the machine porta le and for ease and convenience in moving the machine from placate place. The lower ends of the legs of each end support are connected and braced by the angle-iron bars 4, and the corresponding legs of the opposite" end supports are connected and braced by the angle iron bars 5. The sides of the machine are closed by the panelsfi and the ends are closed by the tire area of the end supports, see Figure 1, being bolted or otherwise secured to the supports 1, as at 8, except that the panels 6 on the side of the machine adjacent the operating means is preferablyprovided with a cutout portion or opening 9 "for easy access to the operating means, and said cut-out porre 2 is an end elevationof the frame is a Vertical cross-section, as the panels-7. The side panels 6 cover the en-- 1922, Serial No. 530,012. Divided and this application filed April 4, 1925. Serial No. 20,629.
tion or opening is preferably closed by the removable plate 10, see Figures 1 and 3 held in place by a suitable fastening 11, one member of which engages against a cross bracebar 12 connecting the legs of the end support. A brace bar, such as 12, being provided for each end support, see Figure 3. The end panels,-as shown in Figure 2, preferably-do not extend to the top of the end supports 1, but rather stop approximately on a line with the top of the perpendicular leg portions of said supports at which point cross-brace bars 13 connect the opposite end supports said panels being bolted or otherwise secured to the end supports 1, as at 14. included in the frame-structure is a platform, comprising the cross-bar 15 and the bar 16 connectingsaid cross-bar 15 and one of the br'ace-bars 1; also the motor rest 17 preferably resting on the bar 16 and one of the brace bars l. The cylinder of the washing machine is designated 20 and is supported by bearings 21 which latter are secured to the inner face of the V-shapedparts of s the side panels 6., so that the V-shaped parts of the angle bars enclose and overhang the bearings and protect the latter.
While I have shown and described the preferred form and manner of constructing the machine, it is obvious that various verted substantially V-shaped top part, side panels conformably fitted in the side members, end panels connected to the legs and having their upper edges substantially alined with the upper parts of the legs and cylinder bearings secured to the inner faces of the V-shaped parts of the side panels, the V'- shaped parts of the angle bars enclosing and overhanging said bearings.
ln witness whereof, I have hereunto affixed my hdnd this 2nd day of April, 1925. ALPHEUS W.- ALTOBFER.
