BERNHARDTzHAUPT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ELECTRIC-LAMP SOCKET.
Application filed May 10, 1926. Serial No. 108,100.
. This invention relates to a socket for decorative electric lamps such as those used on Christmas trees, and aims to simplify and 7 improve the construction of such sockets. The invention provides a fixture having a threaded socket for receiving a lamp and a threaded collar for holding an ornamental globe, the whole being formed of relatively few parts so made that they can be easily assembled.
While I have disclosed a preferred embodiment for purposes of illustration, it should be understood that various changes may be made in the structure without departmg from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings; Fig. 1 is a cross section through the socket showing a fragment of the globe;
Fig. 2 is an elevation of a modified socket, the collar being shown in section.
Referring more specifically to the drawing. the main part of the socket is composed of the barrel 10 formed from a continuous tube of Conducting material, such as brass or copper. The lower part 11 of the barrel is formed with a screw thread of a size to receive the threaded end of an electric bulb 12. The upper end of the barrel is reduced in size and formed with an external screw thread adapted to fit into a socket of a conventional type.
An insulating plug 14 is inserted in the upper end of barrel 10 and an insulating disc 15 is placed within the barrel between its ends. A lead wire 16 passes through plug 14. .nd disc 15 and is attached to a metal cap 17 above the plug and to a cap 18 below the disc.
a depending position.
It will be evident that this construction provides a socket of few parts and simple construction factured.
I claim that can be economically manu- An electric lamp fixture comprising a bar.-
rel formed from a single piece of sheet metal,
the upper end of the barrel being reduced and having an external thread to form an attaching plug, the lower part of the barrel being formed into a socket, a conductor insu-- latedifrom the barrel and extending from the bottom of the socket to the top of the plug, a toll ar surrounding the barrel and having an upwardly extending threaded flange spaced from the barrel, an outturned flange on the lower end of the barrel, the.
collar being flange.
In testimo secured against the outturned whereof I aflix my signature. RERNHARDT HAUPT.
