Description

Jan. 11,1927. C. MYLAEUS ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT FOR BRANCHES Filed Sept. 4. 1926 ATmkA/Hs Patented Jan. 11, 1927.
CARL MYLAEUS, or rnnrrnivisnne, GERMANY.
ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT FOR BRANCHES.
Application filed September 4, 1926, Serial No. 133,700, and in Germany November 26, 1924.
The invention relates to a device adapted to engage a prop, stay, post or the like and serves to support the branches of fruit-trees or the like. Supports of this kind have become known, which consist of a ring or the like provided with a hook, said ring to be slipped over a prop or post and connected to the latter by the binding action caused by the load of the branch.
Devices of this kind, however, require distinct sizes and forms of the post or prop to which they are attached, and besides the said devices must always be slipped over one of the ends of the prop, a manipulation which proves either circumstantial or often is not possible at all, in the event of the prop or post being ring to pass over, or possessing knots or forks or similar obstructions,
Supports for scaifoldings have become known bent to U-shape, which are slipped laterally over the scaffolding posts, into the hook-shaped free. ends of which supports the horizontal scaifolding beams are placed. The binding action is obtained in that the horizontal beam or bar is pressed by its load against the vertical posts; but devices of this nature cannot be used as supports for branches of trees, since the branch to be supported would engage the post and for that reason it would soon become chafed through on account of the continuous movement of the branches of the tree.
The improved support according to the invention obviates these drawbacks.
The device is principally characterized in that the branch support consists of one single piece and possesses an extension or arm, which is bent in various directions, one portion thereof lying transversally to the device and engaging one side of the prop or post, while a second portion is bent in an upward direction and a third portion towards the rear, said shanks forming an angular hook provided with teeth on its inner surfaces in a known manner. Said hook will engage the prop or post from the rear at two additional places situated opposite the first-mentioned place of engagement, so that the support will bind on the post or prop at three different places.
A branch support according to my invention is shown on the drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation,
too thick for the said Figure 2 a plan, and
Figure 3 showing the device fixed to a prop and supporting a branch of a tree.
The support illustrated is made of a round iron bar, the curved or semi-circular carrying portion (1 thereof being adapted to receive the branch 6 of the tree. Owing to the load of the said branch, the lateral member or shank 7) adjacent to part a and forming the angle 6 b will engage the post or prop c. On account of this the hook (Z extending from the vertical member or shank and turning about 6 as an axis, is firmly pressed against the post or prop '0, thus preventing the support from sliding down the post. In order to increase the binding power of the hook, the engagmg surfaces of the latter may be provided at 6Z1 with teeth or be roughened in a known manner. 1
The hook (Z is formed of two members ar-- ranged at an acute angle to each other, both of said hook members being in a plane at right angles to the vertical member or shank Z) and each of said hook members being arranged at an acute angle to the lateral member or shank b.
The device is mounted and bound to the postor prop by a single manipulation and short pull at the semi-circular lower branch carrier (4 and it can be detached in the same manner by a single manipulation and lifting up of the said branch-carrier. The branch support can be attached to any desired place of the prop, and if required its position can also be altered rapidly, and it will carry the heaviest branches and bind the better the heavier the load of the branch, and slipping ofthe device can never take place. Besides, it can be used for posts or props of the most different diameter and cross-section.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a supporting device for the branches of trees, comprising a curved branch supporting memher, a lateral member extending from the branch supporting member, a vertical'member extending from the lateral member and an angular hook extending from the upper end of the vertical member and standing at an acute angle to said lateral member.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a supporting device for the branches of trees, comprising a curved branch supporting member, a lateral member extending from the branch supporting member, a vertical member extending from the lateral memberand a hook 5 extending from the upper end of the Vertical member and standing at a right angle thereto and at an acute angle to "saiel lateral member, the members of the hook being at an acute angle to each other and provided With teeth on their inner surfaces. 10
"lntesti-mony"whereof I have-signed my name to this specification.
CARL MYLAEUS.
