ADJUSTAB E HANGER.
appiicatmn fil'ed May 15,
The present invention relates to a hang er, particularly useful by butchers and the like, for hogs and other animals.
An important object of the invention, s to provide a hanger of this nature which is capable of an easy and quick adjustment for accommodating different sized animals.
Another very important object of the 1nvention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, strong, durable, notlikely to easily become out of order, exceedingly eliicient and reliable in operation, compact and convenient, inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view of the adjustable hanger embodying the feattires of my invention,
Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section therethrough, taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that 5 designates a rectangular frame which is adapted to be supported at the center immediately of a clamp 6 engaged there about and having an eye bolt 7 in the upper portion thereof extending upwardly there from. A bar 8 is constructed with opp sitely threaded portions and has one end journaled as at 9 in one end of the frame 5, while the other end thereof is journaled in a bushing 10 threaded in the other end thereof. The latter end of the bar 8 is extended beyond the adjacent end of the frame 5 and has fixed thereto in any suitable manner a crank 11 for the rotation of the bar 8.
The letters C denote two carriages which are identical in construction and therefore I shall only describe one in detail for the purpose of clearness and simplicity.
Referring to the carriages C in detail, it will be seen that the numeral 13 denotes a U-shaped member, the sides of which are connected at their upper ends by means of 1926. Serial in. 109,317.
a T-shaped body 14, the central vertical portion of which depends downwardly between the sides of the U-shaped member and has a threaded opening 15 therein for receiving the adjacent threaded portion of the bar 8; A pair of shafts 16 extend between the sides of the U-shaped member and have journaled thereon rollers 17 adapted to ride on the upper edges of the sides of the rectangular frame 5. j
A swivel hook 18 is engaged with the bight portion of the U-ehapied member 18. A third shaft 18 is disposed between the lower portions of the sides of the U-shaped member-l3, and has ournaled thereon a roller 19. It is to be noted that the shaft 18 is vertically alined with the body 14. and the roller 19 thcr'ecn engages the under edges of the rectangular frame 5. The rollers 17 are disposed one on each sideof the body 141-. This body 14: is preferably engaged with the member 13 by means of suitable fastening elements 20 or in any other suitable manner.
In the use of this contrivan'ce, the eye bolt 7 is adapted to be engaged with a hook or other like support, so that the 'contrivance may be suspended therefrom. It is to be noted that the carriage adjacent the crank 11 is closer to the clamp 6 than the other carriage, that is, the two carriages are arranged so that the frame and the parts thereon are properly balanced in relation to the eye bolt 7, so that when suspended therefrom, the, frames will take an approximate horizontal position.
it will further be Seen that by actuating the bar 8 through the operation of the crank 11, that the carriages may be moved toward or away from each other as may be desired, depending upon the size of the hogs or other animals to be suspended from the hanger. The embodiment of the invention disclosed herein is exceedingly simple in its construction, yet strong and durable, and possesses the advantage of easy operation and compactness and convenience. The present embodiment, however, of the invention has been disclosed merely by way of example, since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above de scription.
ft is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts ill) I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described including, in combination, an elongated rectangular frame, a bar journaled in the frame longitudinally thereof and provided with oppositely threaded portions, a pair of carriages movable longitudinally on the frame and engaged with the said bars, one with each threaded portion thereof, hooks on the carriages, and supporting means on the frame.
2. A device'of the class described including, in combination, an elongated rectangular frame, a bar journaled in the frame longitudinally thereof and provided with oppositely threaded portions, a pair of carriages movable longitudinally on the frame and engaged with the said bars, one with each threaded portion thereof, hooks on the car riages, supporting, means on the frame, and rollers on the carriages engaging the upper and lower edges of the frame.
3. A device of the class described including, in combination, an elongated rectangular frame, a bar journaled in the frame to extend longitudinally thereof and provided with oppositely threaded portions within the frame, means on the bar outside of the frame for imparting rotary motion thereto, a pair of carriages movably mounted on the f 'ame, supporting means on the frame, each carriage comprising a U-shaped member straddling the outside of the frame, a body in the U-shaped member extending downwardly between the sides of the frame and having a threaded opening for engaging one of the threaded portions of the shaft, a pair of rollers journaled between the sides of the U- shaped member to bear against the upper surface of the frame, and a roller journaled between the sides of the U-shaped member to engage the under edges.
4. A device of the class described including, in combination, an elongated rectangular frame, a bar journaled in the frame to extend longitudinally thereof and provided with oppositely threaded portions within the frame, means on the bar outside of the frame for imparting rotary motion thereto, a pair of carriages movably mounted on the frame, supporting means on the frame, each carriage comprising a U-shaped member straddling the outside of the frame, a body in the U-shaped member extending downwardly between the sides of the frame and having a threaded opening for engaging one of the threaded portions of the shaft, a pair of rollers journaledbetween the sides of the U-shaped member to bear against the upper surface of the frame, a roller journaled between the sides of the U-shaped member to engage the under edges, said supporting means being in the form of a clamp about the intermediate portion of the frame and having an eye bolt projecting upwardly therefrom.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LOUIS ZOHNER.
