Be it known that I, JAMns STnvnNsoN, a citizen of United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification. v

This invention relates to bag holders and particularly to devices' of this nature for use in wet wash laundries and the like and the particular object is to produce a device of this nature which shall be adapted to firmly hold the bag and at the same time may be quickly and easily adjusted to gripping position and to releasing position.

Another object is to produce a device of this nature in which the jaws may be interchang'eable.

Another object is to produce a device of this nature which shall be simple of construction, cheap to manufacture, and highly efiicient for the purpose for which it is designed.

With these and other objects in view which will become more apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a. top plan view of my improved bag holder.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the base of my machine is formed from a pair of channel beams 10 running transversely and which are held in spaced relationship by tie bars 11 and slats 12, the latter being bolted to the upper flanges of the beams 10.

Rigidly mounted at the four Corners of the structure thus formed and cxtending upwardly therefrom are supporting bars 18 upon which the movable super-structure is pivoted. The bars 13 of one of the members 10 are arranged directly opposite the respective bars 13 of the other member 10.

Pivotally mounted on rivets or the lilze as at 14 are oppositely disposed looking frames. Each of these looking frames con-.

sists of a bar of strip iron bent into an inverted U shaped member 15 having its lower ends connected by a cross tie 16. Below the cross ties 16 each arm of said member 15 is provided with stud 17 which forms a carrying means for one end of a spring 18. There are two springs 18 arrangc'd transversely and in contiguity with the inner faces of the respective channel members 10. Upon the upper portion of each member 15 is mounted a aw, the jaws of both members being constructed alike but applied to the member 15 in reversed position so that both face inwardly. Each jaw comprises a main body member 19 formed with a channel or way 20 so as to fit over the respective member 15. Cleats 21 are secured to the underside of the member 19 and on opposite sides of the member 15 by screws or the like 'and overlap the channel 20 so as to grip the member 15 and secure the jaw in place. Mounted in bosses 22 at the inner ends of the jaw and extending transversely are posts 23 at the upper end of which is secured a horizontally arranged stationary clamp member 24 which also scrves the purpose of (listending the bag. A movable clamp 25 is hingedly mounted on the body member 19 and is adapted to contact with the member 24: so as to grip the bag and hold it firmly. Mounted at the outer edge of the body member 19 is a looking member 26 adapted to swing in a horizontal plane into contact with the movablc clamping member 25 so as to hold same in gripping position. The cam like portion 27 is formed at the free end of member 26 to compensate for wear ou the working surfaces.

It may at times be found advantageous to make one of the frames 15 stationary and in order to do this I provide a pin 31 attached to one of the bars 13 by a chain 32 and adapted to enter registering holes 33 in the respective bars 13 and 15. It will of course be understood that the slats 12 form a conrenient stop for limiting the spring pressed movcment of the frames 15.

While I have described what I deem to bo the most desirable embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth, nor to anything less than the whole of my invention set forth in the appended claims:

1` In a bag holder of the class described,

a supporting base structure, a pair of U-shaped frames pivotaily supported from said iasc structure, and contractile Springs eonnecting the lower ends of said supporting struetures below their pivotal points and means connected With said frame tor supporting a bag.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a base structure including four npright posts, a pair ot U shaped frames pivotally lnounted between said posts, and Springs Aconnecting the lower ends of said frames and means connected with said franies or supporting a bag.

4.
