My present invention has reference to a walking toy, and aims to provide a grotesque figure, including a body, having movable legs, eyes and a lower jaw and -wh1ch, when arranged on a incline is so constructed as to produce a rocking movement which causes a swinging of the legs and jaw to propel the figure and likewise causes the swinging of the eye portions. to produce a grotesque and amusing effect.

To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

As disclosed by the drawings, the toy is shaped to produce a grotesque figure and is painted or otherwise ornamented to enhance its fantastic appearance. The figure may be shaped to represent some prehistoric animal or reptile and in the showing of the drawings the figure has its body portion 2 formed with a tail 3 and with a head 4. The lower jaw 5 of the figure is loosely hinged to the body thereof, as at 6, and the head portion of the figure has its sides provided with round openings 7. The top of the head is formed with longitudinal slits or kerfs 8 that intersect the inner walls provided by the openings 7, and in these slots or kerfs 8 there are hung from a pin 9 the straight ends 10 of discs 11. The discs have their outer faces painted to represent eyes and as the said discs are freely hung it will be ap parent that the same will swing on the pivot 9 when the figure is in motion; The jaw 5 upon its lower face and adjacentto its outer end, is formed with a lug 12. The belly portion of the body 2 from its jaw. is round ed outwardly, as at 13, the said rounded portion being formed with a transverse opening in which there is seated a strip 1 1- which has its outer face rounded and which extends a suitable distance beyond the outer wall or belly portion 13. From thence the belly portion of the figure is cut inwardly and from thence inclined or rounded to the tail 8, the outer end of the said tail portion being fiat. I j

The strip 14: provides a fulcrum element for the figure and the body thereof, inward of the fulcrum element 14, is notched and is formed with around opening 16. Adapted to pass through this opening 16 there a pin 17 that is secured to the leg members 18 of the figure. Each of the leg members is pivoted, as at 19, to the sides of the body 2 of the figure. The leg members are com paratively wide, the outer or toe portions thereof are widened and have their outer ends rounded, as at 20.

It is to be noted that the head portion of the figure is of a greater width than the tail portion thereof and when the figure is arranged on an inclined plane, as illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings, and the tail portion is tapped, the figure will rock to the position illustrated by the full lines in Figure 1 of the drawings. This causes the opening ofthe movable aw 5 and permits of the rounded ends of the legs 18 contacting with the surface on which the figure is arranged. The weighted headed end of the figure will return the same to its initial position, which causes the leg members to be swung to the dotted line position, the jaw 5 to be closed. The leg members by the weight thereof will return to ground contaoting posi ion so that the figure will be propelled as long as the same is arranged upon the inclined plane. The swinging of the jaws and the legs and the movement of the eyes of the figure will produce an amusing effect upon the operator or the audience. The swinging of the legs, is, of course, limited by the contacting engagement of the pin 17 with the opposite walls provided by the opening 16 and the simplicity and advantages of my grotesque toy will, it is thought, be apparent when the foregoing description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings without further detailed description.

Having described the invention, claim 1. A toy as herein described, comprising a body having a head and a tail, the head portion of the figure being of a greater weight than the tail, weighted eyes pivot ally secured on the head of the body, a' lower jaw pivotallysecured onthe body and having its outer end formed With a downwardly extending lug, said body "having its belly portion rounded and provided with an outboth directions.
