E. C. JOHNSON POCKET FOR- AUTOMOBILE DOORS AND THE LIKE Filed March 3, 19 25 attorney Patented Nov. 16, 1926.
PATENT FFICE.
ERWIN C. JOHNSON, OF GRASS RANGE, MONTANA.
POCKET FOR AUTOIVIOBILE DOQRS AND THE LIKE.
- Application filed March 3, 1925.
This invention relates to apocket and aims to provide a device of this nature which mayv be mounted on the doors of automobiles and like vehicles, where the doors are not provided with pockets, or where the original pockets have become dilapidated.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having an exceedingly simple structure that may be manufactured at a low cost, one which is attractive in appearance, strong, durable, and well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed.
lVith the above and numerous objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
The figure is a perspective view of the pocketembodying the features of my invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that I provide a rectangular spring wire frame 1. One end of this frame is bent rectangularly to provide a top portion 2 which merges in an inwardly disposed extension 3, which overhangs and lies parallel with the major portion of the frame. This frame is covered, as at 4, with suitable material, such as leather, imitation leather, canvas, fabric, or any other suitable pliable material.
On the cover a which is disposed on the major portion of the frame 1 there is fixed a sheet 5 of similar material, which is secured at its edges to the cover except for the top edge, thereby forming a passage in which the articles may be conveniently stored. A closure (5 is stitched, as at 7, transversely ex- Serial 210. 12,852.
tending across the cover 4, immediately above the open or upper end of the pocket formed by the cover f and the strip 5. A suitable fastening element, such as a. snap fastener 8 is associated with the closure 6 and the a strip 5.
From the above, it Will be seen that the portions 2 and 3 of the frame may be engaged with the upper edge of the door, so that the body portion of the frame lies along the inside of the door. The spring nature of the wire from which the frame is made Will tend to hold the frame in place on the door.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts, as well as in the materials, may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed, or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. The combination of a rectangular frame having a covering disposed thereover to completely encase the frame, one end of the frame and cover being bent over upon themselves for engaging over the top of a door or the like, and a strip of material fixed at its edges to the cover for forming a pocket.
2. A device of the class described including a frame of spring wire bent over upon itself at one end, a covering completely encasing the frame, a strip of material secured at its edges to the cover for forming a pocket with the cover, and a closure fixed to the cover and extending over the opening of the pocket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ERWIN C. JOHNSON.
