LOUIS HERMAN, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BELT.
Application filed June 27, 1925. Serial Noi 40,060.
-This invention relates to a combined abdominal supporter and sanitary belt and has for an object the provision of an article of this character which may be used for both purposes, or as an abdominal supporter alone.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an article of the above character which includes a belt of novel construction capable of being stretched with its stretching action limited to prevent undue strain upon the belt.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a sanitary belt which includes a container or sack of novel construction havin reinforcing means to maintain its sacka formation, with the said means ex-' tending to provide attaching means.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further, includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view with the parts disassociated. v
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a similar view on the line 3-4: of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference characters 10 and 11 indicate respectively front and back panels which may be made of any suitable material and which have attached to their opposite side edges straps 12. These straps are preferably arranged in spaced upper and lower pairs so as to enable them to more accurately adjust themselves to the body of the wearer and thus provide a com fortable support for the abdomen. The ends of two of the straps are adapted to be removably secured to one edge of one of the panels by any suitable means, snap fasteners 13 being illustrated for this purpose. The straps 12 are preferably formed of rubber or other water proof tubing as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings and are provided along their opposite edges with straps 14 which serve to reinforce said edges and hold the straps substantially flat. Extending through the straps and connected to the panels 10 and 11 are tapes 15"which are substantially non-elastic and which are of a suificient length to permit of a limited amount of stretch for the straps 12. The belt thus provided may thus properly adjust itself to the body of the wearer.
Detachably secured to the panels 10 and 11 is a sack 'or container 16 which is formed of rubber or other water proof material and has secured to its opposite ends a preferably non-elastic portion 17. The oppositeside' edges-of the strip of material of which the container 16 is formed, are turned inward over substantially non-elastic tapes ,18 and the latter are secured in place by stitching through reinforcing strips 19 arranged along the inner edges of the container. The tapes 18 extend through eyelets 20 at each endof the container and form ties 21 which are adapted to be passed through eyelets 22 provided in each of the panels 10 and 11. The ties thus provide reinforcing means for the edges of the container so as to prevent these edges from stretching, and in addition, provide means for detachably securing the opposite ends of the container to the panels. Additional securing means in the form of snap fasteners 23 may also be provided for connecting the container to the panels.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described claimed is In a device for the purpose indicated, the combination with a belt for attachment around the waist of the body of a wearer provided with front and rear extension panels, of a pad container provided with attaching terminals at its ends, said terminals having snap fastener connections with the front andrear extension panels, said attach ing terminals of the container and the extension panels having registering eyelets,
the invention what is said pad containers comprising a strip of- .fabric material having its side edge portions folded inwardly and underturned, the underturned portions being attached to the under portion of the inwardlyturned parts, the adjacent parts of the inwardly folded portions being free and unattached from the body of the container, to allow portions of a pad to be fastened under the inwardly folded portions, tapes positioned between the adjacent faees of-the inwardly folded and underturned portions and secured by said stitchin the ends of the tapes having extension en s free and exposed where the ettaching terminals'connect with the conta-iner,'sa.id extension ends adapted pass through the registering eyelets and being tied, and thereby preventing stretching of the edges of the container, and at the same time relievin strain on the exposed parts of the snap asteners.
