EDUCATIONAL TOY.
Application filed November Our invention relates to an educational toy comprising a novel typing set consisting of a plurality of stamp elements having type-faces of different geometrical configurations which are adapted for combination to imprint an unlimited number of patterns, pictures, designs or representations from a limited number of stamping elements.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a typing set of the character stated, and comprising a plurality of separate stamping elements, each of which consists of a stamp member mounted on a body portion which latter is of a size and contour, in transverse cross section corresponding to the geometrical configuration of the type face of the stamp member carried thereby, for the purpose of facilitating the position ing of the stamp elements when printing the various configurations embodied in a representation and for facilitating the selection of the desired stamping elements during the printing operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the .novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing forming a portion of this specification and wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 are plan views of a plurality of imprints of geometrical configurations produced by the various stamp elements and arranged in dash line squares to illustrate the relative size of the imprints with respect to each other.
Figure 2 is a caricature representation of a cat arranged from an association of imprints of the stamp elements.
Figures 3 and 4 are perspective views of stamp elements in accordance with our invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 1 5, 16, 17, 18, and 19 respectively denote imprints 28. 1824. Serial No. 752,613.
which may be printed from the type-face configurations of stamping elements constructed in accordance with our invention.
The type-face configuration of the stamp elements bear a linear relation of measurement with respect to each other so that the imprints mace therefrom may be properly combined and aligned to produce the representation desired, as for instance in Figure 2, of the drawing, a caricature representation of a cat is illustrated, which is printed by the use of stamp elements having facetype configurations for imprinting the im prints 1, 2, 3, l, 5, 12, 16 and 17.
The stamping element 20, shown in Figure 3, of the drawing, consists of a. body portion 21 having a stamp member 22 fixed to one end thereof. The stamp member 22 is provided with a type-faced configuration 23 constructed for printing the triangular imprint 5. The size and contour of the stamp element 20, in transverse cross section, conforms to the size and contour of its type face configuration 23 and of the imprint 5 made therefrom.
The body portion of the stamp element 24, shown in Figure4, of the drawing, is provided with a pair of stamp members indicated at 25 and 26, respectively. The stamp member 25 is attached to one end 27, of the body portion, and the stamp member 26 is attached to the other end 28 thereof.
The type face configuration 29 of the stamp member 25 is square and adapted to produce the square imprint 1. In like manner the size and contour of the body portion end 27, in transverse cross section, is identical to the size and contour of the square type-face configuration 29.
The type-face configuration 30 of the stamp member 26 is one-half square and adapted to print the one-half square im-- print 2. In like manner the size and contour of the body portion end 28, in transverse cross section is identical to the size and contour of the one-half square typeface configuration 30.
By constructing each of the stamp elements of the entire type set with a body portion shaped to conformaccurately to the type face configuration carried thereby, the operation of combining the various required imprints to produce a determined design will be greatlyfacilitated as the mounting or body portion of each of the stamp elements will serve as a medium for accurately aligning one imprint to another. Further such construction of the stamp elements will enable the user to readily identiiy and select the stamp element desired from the group of stamp elements, which otherwise would require considerable time if the body portions of the various stamp elements were all uniform in size and contour.
What We claim is:
1. In a device for the purpose set forth, an elongated body portion, a stamp member attached to each end of said body portion and having a face-type representing a geometrical configuration, the transverse cross sectional. contour of said body portion conforn'iing to the contour of the geometrical configuration of the type-face carried at respective ends of said body portion, substantially as described.
2. In a device for the purpose set forth, an elongated body portion, a stamp member attached to each end 0i": said body portion and having a type-face representing a geometrical eonfiguration, the contour of one one-halt portion of said body portion in transverse cross section conforming to the contour of the geometrical configuration of the type-face carried at the end thereof, and the contour of the other one-halt portion of said body portion in transverse cross section conforming to the contour of the geometrical configuration of the type-face carried at the end thereof, substantially as deicribed.
