Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HARRISON H. JONES, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT I N SNAPPER-LOOPS FOR WHIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,550, dated November 2, 1875 application filed October 15, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRISON H. JoNEs, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Snapper-Loops for Whips and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 represents the snapper-end of a whip having my improved loop. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the loop with the snapper detached; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention consists, first, in the construction of an elastic and adjustable snapper-loop; and, second, in the combination of said loop with the snapper-end of a whip, substantially as hereinafter more fully Si t forth,
and pointed out in the claim.
A represents a flexible tube made of indiarubber, or similar suitable material, and having an upper solid part or shank, a, which terminates in the loop or eye b. The snapper B, which is of the usual construction, is inserted through the loop I) in the same manner as it is inserted through the eye of an ordinary Whip, and is then looped as usual.
My improved snapper-loop, consisting of the parts A a b, is readily adjusted upon the snapper-end of a whip by expanding the flexible tube or socket A and drawing it over the end, Where it will be held firmly'in place by the contraction of the tube.
It may be applied to new as Well as to old whips, and will be found to be of special advantage in cases where the eye has brokenoff, as it may be readily adjusted by any one, and is far more durable than the eyes as usually made. The flexible shank a will give when the Whip is jerked in snapping, thereby taking otf much of the strain from other parts of the whip. This device may be made of various sizes, and varying lengths of the tube A and shank a, to suit the different styles and Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States a As a new article of manufacture, the improved flexible and elastic snapper-loop for whips, herein described, consisting of the tube or socket A, shank a, and eye 1), substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HARRISON H. JONES. Witnesses:
J. G. HANKS, UHARLES T. HALEY.
