FENCE POST.

Application filed November My invention relates to fence posts and more particularly to an improved fastening device for fastening wire strands to the post.

An object of the invention is to provide a fastening device of this character wherein the wire strand is received in a sinuous slot and held therein by a plug engaged in the open end of the slot.

With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts to be herein after specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective of a fence post constructed in accordance with my invention;

Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevation of the same;

Figure 3 is a perspective of a modified embodiment of the invention; and

Figure 4 is a fragmentary side elevation of the same.

Referring to the invention in detail a fence post 2 having a spiral wire strand receiving slot 5 whose forward end opens at the front of the post is provided. The formation of this slot produces a hook 8 which lies inwardly beyond the entrance of the slot beneath which the wire strand 9 lies when insert-ed therein.

To prevent withdrawal of the wire strand, a tapered plug 30, formedof lead or other soft rust proof material, is driven into theentrance of the slot.

. In lieu of the plug 30 I provide a resllient U-shaped plug 31 which, as illustrated in Figure 2, is resiliently engaged between the opposite walls of the slot at the entrance thereof.

I claim 1. A fence post having an outstanding flange formed with a slot for the reception of a fence wire, said slot comprising an entrance portion in the edge of said flange with CHRISTIAN WVINTER.
