Description
G. ARI-2M3 Manufacture of Sugar Tuy watch and Chain.
N0. 58,443. Patented Oct. 5.1875.
Wzkwae jwz-zzfix W 4 YMW M UNITED 'r GEORGE AREND, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF SUGAR TOY WATCHES AND CHAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,443, dated October 5, 1875 application filed September 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE AREND, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sugar Toy; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which drawing represents a face view of my invention.
This invention relates to a toy watch and chain; and consists in a chain composed of a series of links made of sugar united by a common wire or cord passing axially through the whole series of links, which chain contains on one end a candy watch, or other article of a similar nature, and on the other end a retaining-bar, also made of sugar, in such a manner that an eatable toy is obtained which is comparatively strong and durable: and which, when suspended from a Christmas-tree, will produce a good effect.
In the drawing, the letter A designates my chain, which is provided with a toy watch, B, on one end, and with a retaining-bar, C, on the opposite end thereof, being made of sugarcandy, and the same may be of any form or construction, and, if desired, other articles may be substituted therefor. a a designate the links of the chain A, which are also made of sugar-candy, in any desired form or shape, and which are united with each other and with the watch, and with the retaining-bar, by a cord or wire, b, that is made to extend through the body of the watch, through the links, and through the retaining-bar. In practice, all these parts are produced by means of roller-dies, and the cord or wire is fed in between these dies, together with the sugar, so that all the parts on passing out of the dies will be connected by said cord or wire.
By these means a sugar-toy is obtained which is novel and pleasing for children, and which can be used with good advantage for ornamenting Christmas-trees.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by- Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a sugar-toy composed of a watch, B, a chain, A, and a retaining-bar, 0, all the parts being connected by a cord or wire, I), substantially as shown and described.
GEORGE AREND.
