Description

Aug. 7, 1928.
R. F. BTEMAN BARN zRooM Filed April 13, 1927 I ITNESS:
Patente'd ug. 7, 1928.
nnrrso sfrA'rEs` N latania orrrca BARN BROOM.
Appfication filed April 13,'1927. Serial No. 183,513.
combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the acconipanying drawings and specifically pointed' out in the appended claim.
In describing myinvention in detail, reference will be had to the acconipany'ing drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which 2-' Figure 1 is a bottom plan View of the improved broom., 'Figurel is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1. i
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the spring metal pieces.
' which, on its-under face, is provided with a number of longitudinally extending grooves 2. Instead of using bristles for this bi'oom,
Iiuse small strips 3 of spring metal which are of L shape with their short arms resting in the bottoms of the grooves and the strips are held in the grooves by the filling pieces 4 which act to (wedge the strips' in the grooves, These pieces are held in place by the. screws 5. Each strip 3 has a pair of tongues 6 punched Vtherefrom which are driven into the side walls of the grooves, as
shown in Figure 2, so that the strips are held in place even after the pieces 4 are re- In these views, 1 indicates the broom head moved. Of course, a. damaged strip 8 can be easily removed and a new one substituted after a piece 4, is taken out of the groove and then the said piece l is replaced, the tongues acting to temporarily hold the strips in po- .sition while the-pieces 4 are being removed or replaced. w i
I prefer to use three rows of strips 8, as shown in the drawings, with the strips in the outer rows in alignment while the strips in the inner row are out of alignment with the strips of the outer rows, as clearly shown in Figure 1. This arrangement of strips will insure thorough cleaning of the surface o ver which the broom is passing.
A handle 7 is fastened to the head and a wire brace 8 connects the handle to the ends of the head.
' It will thus be seen that I have provided a broom which is essentially designed for Cleaning barns, stables and the like. the spring metal strlps acting to push material 'along the surface over which the broom is passing.
p It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent`` I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provide-d that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claini.
` Vhat I claini is A broom'of the class described comprising a head having grooves therein, a plurality of spring metal stripsof L-shapc having their shorter arms seated in the grooves, eachstrip having a tongue struck therefroin which is adapted to be pressed into the side of the groove and a filling piece inserted in each groove and bcaring on the shorter arms for holding the spring metal strips therein. In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
' RAYMOND F. BATEMAN.
