Disposed centrally between the facing beveled gears 42 and 43 and suitably supported on the bottom of the compartment 26 there is a springl wound motor 48. The barrel of the motor has centrally secured thereon a ring gear 49 which is in mesh with a similar ring gear 50 that is mounted on a shaft 51 and the fiat upper face of the ring gear may provide a table for a disc record 52.
Vr1`he record has its groove engaged by the lever on the sound arm of a phonograph 53.
The spring wound motor 48 .is provided with a winding gear 54 engaged by a pinion 55 that carries a gear 56. The gear 56 is in mesh with a gear 57 on the end of a winding rod or lever 58. The lever is journaled in suitable bearings and passes through one side of the compartment and has its outer end cranked, as at 59.
0n its upper face the motor casing is provided with a beveled gear 60 which is, of course, operated by the motor and this gear is at all times in mesh with two oppositely disposed comparatively small beveled gears 61 and 62 which have stub shafts journaled in bearings in suitable uprights that are fiXed in the bottom or floor of the compartment. VTothe opposite sides of the motor 48 there are secured on the licor or bottom of the compartment 26 the foot portions of frame members 63. The upper portion of the frame members are each provided with spaced longitudinally extending elongated slots 64 and 65, respectively, and in these slots there are received the rounded ends or lugs 66 formed on upper and lower crossed arms 67 and 68. The edges of one pair of each of theV crossed arms have integrally formed therewith U-shaped extensions 69,
connected together at their outer end, by` a central element 70. Secured to the element 70 there is a rod 71, that passes. through a suitable opening 73 in one side of the compartment and which arm has its outer end formed with an arm 74. There is journaled between the central and connectingportions of the crossed arms 67 and 68 a shaft that vcarries thereon a beveled face gear 75. It
will be apparent that bysliding the gear supporting frame, comprising the crossed arms, in one direction the double faced gear 75 will be brought in mesh with the gear 42 and 61 so that the shaft 41 will be turned On each of the sprocket chains 40 there is an outstanding lug 76 designed for contacting engagement with similar lugs 77 on the outer face and adjacent to the bottom of the receptacle 27. We will say that the double faced beveled gear when brought to position justl described will cause the shaft 41 to revolve so that the lugs 76 mounted therein anti-frictionalwill contact with the lugs 77 and elevate the receptacle 27. It is to be noted that the short or stub shafts 37 will be tuined by the sprocket chains so that the worm wheels thereon will revolve the pivot arms 33 causing the said arms to swing the cover sections 28 to open position. The swinging movement of the cover sections is limited by the contacting engagement thereof with the outer ends ofthe stub shafts 37 and when so arranged and the receptacle is brought toits fully elevated position, the lugs 76 will free themselves from engagement with the lugs 77. `When soarranged vthe op erator moves the rod 71 to bring the double faced gear 75 out of mesh with the gears 42 and 61 and when it is desired to return the parts to their lowered initial position the i'od 71 is further moved so that the double faced gear 75 will be brought to mesh with the gears 43 and 62, thus causing the shaft 41 to turn in a reverse direction and by virtue of such turning to again bring` the lugs 76 on the sprocket chain to Contact with the lugs 77 to lower the receptacle 27 and to closeV the covers 28. In the meantime the sound producing device will be operated. Suitable means, broadly indicatedbyA the numeral 79, may be moved to engage one of the gears of the motor to prevent the operation of the member when the receptacle is to be held stationary in the compartment. The rod 71 is provided with spaced spring catches 80 and 81, respectively, These catches are movable to contact with the inner or outer faces of the compartment s0 that it is not necessary to hold the rod and the gear shift frame associated therewith when the receptacle is ybeing raised or lowered.
It is believedthat the foregoing description when carefully read in connectionwith the drawings will fully set forth the simplicity of my construction, the operation thereof and its many advantages. `While l have illustrated satisfactory embodiments of my improved device my features of invention are capable of extended application and I ldo not wish tobe limited to the specific structure herein shown and described.
Having described the invention, I claim 1. In a device for the purpose'set forth, a compartment, hinged doors normally closing the compartment, pivotally mounted arms in the compartment contacting Vwith the doors, and said arms having segmental teeth at their pivoted ends, worm wheels lOO journaled in the compartment and in mesh f with said teeth, a receptacle in the coinpartment, and motor operatedfmeans for imparting a vertical .movement to the receptacle and for turning the worms toswing the arms to causeV the doors to open andV close when the receptacle is being raised or lowered.
