Description

' 1,676,122 J. N. WEIBELER FUSE PLUG Filed March 16, 1927 @ummm INVENTOR WITNESS:
ATTORNEY Patented July 3, 1928.
UNITED rSTATES JOSEPH N. WEIBELER, OF BELLE PLAINE, MINNESOTA.
FUSE PLUG.
Application led March 16, 1927. Serial No. 175.802,.v
. The object of this invention is the provision of a rellable fuse for electric light systems which also has associated therewith an indicator that will be automatically brought into operation should the fuse blow out and thereby overcome the trouble and annoyances of discovering which fuse in the boX has burned out.
To the attainment of the above broadly stated objects and others which will `present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, the improvement further resides in certain other novel features of construction, combination and operative association of parts, a satisfactory embodiment of which is disclosed by the accompanying drawings. Y
In the drawings: r
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a. fuse plug in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof showing the cover in open position.
Figure 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 3--3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of a cover for the fuse provided with a different type of hinge.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 5 of Figure 4.
The hollow body of the Jfuse is indicated by the numeral 1. The closed bottom of the body 1 is provided with an opening l? which is elongated or of slot form and through this opening there is inserted a fuse link 2 provided at one end with a contact knob 3. The inner end of the fuse link is formed with an eye 4 capable of being inserted thru the slot la.
Surrounding the body 1 and contacting with an outwardly directed shoulder on the upper end of the said body there is a metal screw sleeve 5. i This sleeve may have a reduced extending portion that is rounded upon itself to provide a barrel that is received between other barrels depending from thc iange 6 of the cover member 7, a suitable pivot 8 passing through the barrels and hingedly connecting the cover to the body. The cover has a central' opening therethrough that is closed by a mica disc 9. The hinge connection between the cover and the body includes a metal member 10 ar ranged in the flange and against the under face of the cover. the said member 10 mergeye 4 ot' the fuse link 2. Having one end fixed in the body 1 there isan arched spring 12, and this spring has a head 13 of'insulating material that contactsthe hook carrying member 10. The hook carrying member is of electricconductivity, and as disclosed byl the drawings, is directly connected with the mg into a hook'll that is received in the l metal screw sleeve 5. Should the fuse link fuse is burnt out. As stated, the fuse link 2 may be readily replaced.
In Figures 4 and 5 the cover 14 has sel.cured in the inner sides of the flanges thereof the angle ends of a wire member 15. The
body ot' the wire member is of substantially rectangular formation, the arms on one side of the said body being bent, as at 16, in the same direction, and merging into eyes on barrels 17 that are hingedly connected to the metal. screw sleeve on the body. The second member of the substantially rectangular body portion of the wire member 15 is centrally bent inwardly to provide the same with a hook 17 to engage with the eye of the fuse link 2.
The simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be understood and appreciated so that further detail description is not believed necessary.
Having described the invention, I claim A fuse plug comprising a hollow porcelain body having a metal screw sleeve thereon, a removable fuse link in the body, and extending through the closed end thereof, a head on the outer end of the link and an eye on the inner end of the link, a cover hingedly secured to the body and having a mica covered opening therethrough, a metal member on the inner face of the cover hingedly connected to the sleeve and having a hooked end to engage with the eye of the fuse link, and a spring influenced insulator member contacting with the hook member, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I atliX my signature.
