Description
L. A. BROWN ATTACHMENT PLUG Filed Maron 1'0, 1926 atented ov.

ATTAQHMENT Prine.
Application led March 10,11926. Serial No. 93,739.
One object of the present invention is toprovide a plug so constructed thatit must be removed from its socket before access can be had to the fuses, thereby eliminating any possibility of the workman being shocked by coming into contact with a charged portion of the plug when changing the fuses.
Anotherobject is to provide an attachment plug having the novel design, construction and combination of parts hereinafter described in detail and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
in the drawings: -Figure 1 is a sectional view through a plug constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figures 2 and 3 are side elevations of the body of the plug taken at right angles to each other.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the bottomor end of the body. Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 2 designates the body portion of the plug as a whole, which is preierably formed from molded insulation, such as bakelite or porcelain. The body has a cylindrical neck i provided witha screwthreaded metallic sleeve or shell 5. The sides of the body are recessed to form fuse receiving pockets 6 and 7 divided or separated from each other by a center portion 8 of the body. The /body 2 is further cut away at leach Side of the recesses or pockets 6 and 7 as'at 9 to permit grasping of the Fuse clips 10 and 11 are secured adjacent the opposite ends of the pockets 6 and fuse clips 12 and13 are secured adjacent the opposite ends of the pocket 7. A center contact 14 is mounted in the neck end of the body 2 and extends into the chamber 6 and Vis connected with the fuse clip 10. A conductor 15 extends through the body 2 and is connected to the sleeve or shell 5 and fuse clip 12 in the pocket 7. The lower fuse clips 1l and 13, respectively, are connected to line terminals 16 and 17, respectively, which terminate in spring Contact ends 18V and 19, respectively,'in recesses 20 and 21, respectively. An attachment cap 22 is pro`- vided with prongs 23 and 24 adapted to project into the recesses 20 and 21 and engage with the Contact ends 18 and 19 of the line terminals F uses 25 and 26 are' adapted to be secured in thel clips 10 and 11 and 12 and 13, respectively.
A cylindrical shell 27 of insulating material is mounted aroundthe body portion and is screw-threaded on the body as at 28 at the lower end and bears against a shoulder 29 formed on the body 2. rlhe opposite or upper end or' the shell 27 terminates at the inner end of the neck portion l of the body and is adapted to be in close relation to the receiving socket when the plug isl screwed into operative position, so that the plug must be removed from the receiving socket or receptacle before the shell 27 can be removed from the plug body to permit access to the fuses. l This relatively simple mounting of the shell 27 is a highly important detail since it positively prevents the workman gaining access to the itusesr While the plug is in electrical connection with the line and thereby eliminates any danger of his becoming shocked by coming intol contact with ,charged portions of the plug when changing fuses. Y
While l have shown and described one specific embodiment of my invention it will be understood that i do not wish. to be limited thereto sincel various modifications may be made without departing trom the scope of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
1n combination with a conventional form of screw` socket, a fused attachment plug comprising a substantially cylindrical body cut away at opposite sides to form separate fuse pockets for the accommodation of fuses and fuse clips, said body being further cut away at each side of said fuse pockets to form an opening 4to permit the operator to readily grasp the fuses when changing said i fuses, a screw shell and center Contact car- 10 at one end and bearing against-a shoulder formed on said'body, the opposite end of said As hell terminating at a point adjacent one end of the screw shell so that said cylindrical shell can lonly be removed to permit access to said fuses after the attachment plug is unscrewed from said socket.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name.
